Seamus Coleman makes significant donation to 2-year old battling cancer in Donegal

As if we needed another reason to admire the Irish captain.

Everton and Ireland star Seamus Coleman has made a significant donation to a two-year-old boy battling cancer in Donegal.

According to Donegal Daily, the Irish captain donated €6,000 to Caolan Melaugh from Killygordan in Donegal, who was diagnosed with stage four cancer – a high-risk neuroblastoma – when he was just 10 months old.

Since then, Caolan has had a tough 15 months or so, having had to undergo chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and six months of immunotherapy.

Coleman made the donation to a GoFundMe page set up for Caolan in January; medical expenses in the United States are set to cost Caolan’s family in excess of €200,000, but the GoFundMe page has already raised just short of €24,000 in two months.

Commenting on the generous donation, Gerard McConnell, who set up the GoFundMe page, told Donegal Daily: “I nearly fell off my stool when I saw a donation of €6,000 coming in this morning from Seamie Coleman.

“That is just such a wonderful thing for him to do, to think he took the time to read Caolan’s plight and to be so generous then with his money.

“That will help enormously, we are all so thrilled. We’d like to thank Seamus and everyone else who donated so far from the bottom of our hearts.”

If you would like to donate to Caolan’s treatment fund, you can do so here.

Walker is better .
I've never been his biggest fan.
Don't think he's a great defender. And his final ball lacks composure most of the time.

He will be in the team next season, but if RK starts to play wing backs on a regular basis, I can see him being replaced
Walker is England's best right back I'll agree on that

I'll take the article with a massive pinch of salt, but the Daily Star had a thing about Everton's top earners and it said Coleman is only on £27,500 a week when Baines is on over £70,000! He must either just not care about cash or have the worst agent known to man!

He signed a new contract in June 2014 when he was in huge demand. He had been named in the premier team of the year the previous season (the only Everton player in that team) and had a number of supposed suitors, including Arsenal and United. No way he signed a contract for £27500pw. That would have made him the lowest paid player in the first XI. He's someone else who needs a new contract in the summer.

Just watched the 20 minute highlights. Didn't notice at the game yesterday but Seamus was right in the thick of things for the first and third goals and was also in the box when Gana hit the post late on. is there another full back in the league that get's into such advanced positions so frequently. I think he's totally boss and I'd make him our next captain.

What is the matter with Seamus taking on left back ? His move down the left yesterday was awesome and his cross with the left foot only missed because there was no one there. Backload right back with Holgate ? Then, all you have to worry about is center to go with Ashley. Honestly, what about Barry ? Wouldn't have to run as far, loves to knock the stuffing out of opposition...and it allows you to play 4 3 1 2. So Coleman Williams Barry Holgate Davies Scheinderlin Gana Barkely Lookman Lukaku. Yes, I'll share what I've been smoking.

Whats the injury to Seamus. Just seen on SSN that he's struggling with injury for Rep of Ireland. Hopefully he's ok for the Derby, he's missed a couple at their place over the last few years I think.

Your statement that Colemans cross from the left was awesome and only missed because no one was there, gives me the chance to be silly.
If Baines played with only one leg, he'd get in our back 4.
