Seamus Coleman

..12 months out will total a lot of salary. Given the incident involved there's probably an argument that the Welsh FA should pay. I've not seen anything from Taylor by way of an apology, I'm not sure if he went over to Coleman after the incident or just walked off.
No I dont think so Eggs. He may have done but I was in shock tbh. I was only watching on the box but I knew immediately. It was one of those challenges that make you wince and surprise you when both players get up afterwards.

I think the player will wait until news on the extent of the injury comes out before his apology statement is announced. Expect one though.

Of course it's ok pal, it's very commendable - everyone's thoughts are with Seamus and his family - but that's not the question I asked. I asked if you think it's Taylor's fault or not.

Yep -100%. But I was asking for a little time to allow the facts to be established on Seamus' injury before castigating Taylor. He was rightly sent off but it hardly seems right that a three match ban ican be proportionate to a nine to twelve month lay off for the victim.

My immediate thoughts are to understand the damage and the rehabilitation period than wasting my effort describing what I believe is a fair punishment.

Found this article from an Arsenal fan's point of view...

...They make some very good points.

Absolutely gutted as Seamus is one of the nicest footballers in an era full of big headed primadonnas.

Thanks for sharing this.
Accidents can happen but that was an terrible challenge from Taylor and more punishment is needed to stop these so called tackles as now another player career is in the balance.

Taylor's challenge was reckless and over the top, but there's no way he's gone in intending to cause that.

.

Gonna have to disagree on this point....

I don't buy into players making Reckless challenges and then afterwards when they do real damage cry that they didn't mean to do any damage...

Taylor is an idiot if he thinks you can just tackle like that and not do serious damage..... You have to respect your opponents or this will happen every game.....last night's game got heated, a few elbows your thrown in the first half, and clearly at half time the Wales players decided to leave respect in their dressing room.... O'Shea is a very lucky man this morning, Bale's Reckless and high challenge on him was horrific... Moments later fired up by his captain (and the refs failure to control the game) Taylor did the same thing, this time and unsurprisingly real damage was done.... If Taylor was tackled like that every game his career would be over soon enough too...

Sorry but Taylor's challenge is completely inexcusable, and he should get a long long suspension....

..I listened to the 2nd half on the radio, Kilbane immediately said "that's a baddun, that's a very baddun". Following it, Hartson was quite light hearted but he later said Taylor is a really good lad. I don't know what happened aftermatch but I would be very disappointed if Taylor hasn't at least tried to make contact and apologise.

Nice prompt statement that from Taylor, it really shows how cut up and remorseful he is about the tackle

I just don't get why on earth a player would fly in so forcefully, so late, and so high over the ball. I've not played at any level but I just don't understand what goes through a players mind to do that. There's absolutely nothing to be gained. All that can happen is an injury. I feel sick this morning. Sick for Seamus. Sick that the player (who has a disgusting record of injuring others) hasn't uttered a word of remorse, and sick that some in prominence in the media feel the need to defend him. Of course we want to see tackling and not let it disappear. But to go in that high on a player with a planted leg is cowardly.

I was at a Northampton Saints pre-season friendly last Sept when one of our centres suffered a double leg break and he's back in contention for selection already.... hopefully Seamus can recover as fully and speedily.

...it was definitely reckless. I don't know Taylor but many footballers come through the ranks because they have nastiness in them, they are fearless and careless. You know the players you can't trust in the game.
