Seamus Coleman

Assuming he will be fit after tonight, will be a tough one. If RK sticks with Holgate, then Seamus is basically being told he is out until injuries or form affect Holgate.

If he does play, it tells Holgate the level he needs to get to.

Either way, nice problem to have I guess.
Howard Kendall generally played the lad who was in the team and playing well, keeps everyone on their toes. I hope Mr Koeman follows suit.

That's how it should be for anyone in the side though. Whoevers in form should play and so far holgate hasn't put a foot wrong

IMO a player shouldn't lose their place due to injury unless their replacement simply proves to be the clear better option.

If Coleman is 100% fit he starts for me.
Holgate has proved a better option so far though compared to seamus's last 18 months. Should be his place til loss of form

Disagree...he's been good, but expectations are low cause he's a young player. He lost Arnautovic on that play that Walters should have buried vs Stoke and he was poor/late in marking Spurs goal.

Coleman loses his place if his form isn't there...Holgate hasn't proven to be the clear better option...yet.

Colemans been out of form for two seasons, looked poor preseason. Holgates been part of a solid defensive start to the season, his place till Coleman gets his shot again

Go 3 at the back with Holgate and play Coleman as right wing back?
I'd take Holgate out and rest him again. Never a great idea to throw inexperienced players in the first team and keep on playing them until they lose form. He's done well. Learning curve accomplished. Now rest him and play him in the LC game coming up.

You see that as his plus points? Have another think.
Quite frankly think he's been one of our weakest links over the past 2 seasons.

If he could get to the form of 3 years ago no doubt it's his place but for the time being holgate more than deserves the spot
