2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

It's been mentioned previously but he does appear to set us up like a non league team playing one of the big boys every single week home and away, mitigating circumstances yesterday yes,20/30% possession most games is ridiculous, yes against city, arsenal etc maybe but how the hell do we expect to win games under these circumstances?,the players we have, whilst not worldbeaters are technically good enough to control games to a far better level than we are seeing,I just pray this takeover goes through and the Friedkens have a progressive coach with staff lined up to take us forward.

Jep, I am not worried seeing 30% possession as much as seeing how we deal with it. Hoofing it much more than fast direct play .

As said on Idiaye: he enjoys keeping hold of the ball. Maybe a plan was hatched to exploit Newcasle doubling up on him but the player's tendency is to hug the ball a bit too much.

McNeil: couldn't agree more. He has to maintain discipline and be patient that he'll get a ball to feet centrally that he can exploit. He does drift into his 'natural'postion too much. To be expected I suppose.

But those two have exceptional talent and Dyche has found a place for both in his team...which gives the lie to those saying he's looking to play sterile football.

🤷‍♂️
Re N'Diaye Dave,he usually takes one man extra on and loses possession as we are set up so defensively he rarely has options in support in attacking areas.

This is what I don’t get. People are using the milestone of us moving to a new stadium as being the precipitous trigger for a new kind of football, new expectation of performance etc. Why? It wont change anything unless we attempt to improve our performance now. A new stadium will bring the same challenges in terms of the team that we have now. Additional income generated for transfers won’t be use until summer of 26.
Oh I don’t know, new owners, new stadium, new manager, sounds like it’s a huge move in the right direction to me.

Somehow fluked 48 points last season in the hardest league in the world but he’s a dinosaur who can’t run a tactical session.
We’ve got 5 points from 7 games, averaging only a goal a game scored, are conceding over 2 goals a game and are playing some of the worst football in the league.

Even if you do love him do you need to defend him constantly

Seen his interview this morning

"Making too many mistakes" in the earlier games.
Another gutless jibe at the players as it's never his fault.
Maybe admit you got the line ups and tactics wrong ( especially v Bournemouth)

Can't wait to see the back of this chump.
He is an absolutely awful manager , sooner the better the 3 stooges get booted.

He does like to the hold the ball and he can hurt, but i guess a fair question is what alternative do we give him, we don't have an overlapping fullback he can lay it off to, Dom doesn't tend to come over, so hes either going behind to central midfield or taking it on. Newcastle's plan was to flood the lines, going forward with wide forwards and over lapping full backs and then have both double team both Harrison and N'Daye, at times Illy took up three and when that happens someone is free somewhere - its a model for a trap.
You can see the manager trying to transition it, play with more attacking creativity, the difficulty is the balance - too much - you have the first three games - not enough - we dont score. Now the injuries since the start defensively haven't helped that balance - but you can see the plan and you can see it biting in the last three as players have come back.
We are playing some very nice stuff in phases, i often feel im watching a very different game to others when i peak in here - but then one or two of the more experienced posters come in and reassure me i was at the right game.
Yes, I do believe he's trying - or he's prepared to try - a different way at times this season.

It's difficult though. As you say we need a fully fit team to get consistency of performance and results, and the poor points tally until recently has not helped.

Style is not an issue for me, however. Not right now. We're now back into competitive / focussed mode. Our attitude is now right again. That's the most important thing.

For me, I watched us yesterday and we handled a very difficult opponent with relative ease. Yes, they had the lion's share of the ball and created one or two chances, but we were a danger too.

Dyche was right to be wary not to be too adventurous yesterday. He got that call spot on, IMO. We'll play less dangerous teams home and away and pick up more than enough points.

Re N'Diaye Dave,he usually takes one man extra on and loses possession as we are set up so defensively he rarely has options in support in attacking areas.
Yeah defo mate.

I think depending on the opponent he will have that support though.

I just enjoy watching him skip by and wrong foot the opposition. That's a boost for the long suffering fans too.

The reality is these teams in the league all have better squads than we do:

City, Arsenal, Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Spurs, Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, West Ham, Fulham

We’re then in a group with Palace, Forest, Bournemouth Wolves of probably similar levels of squad. They might want Pickford Branthwaite Calvert Lewin in their teams but we’d sure take Guehi Wharton Eze.

Then there’s Leicester Ipswich Southampton and possibly Brentford who I wouldn’t swap out squad for.

So I think we have a squad that is somewhere between 12th- 16th best in the league which is probably dictated by injuries out of that middling group.

It’s definitely progression from Jan 23 when I thought we had the 2nd worst squad in the league after Southampton.

my personal opinion is I actually think Palace’s squad is slightly better and deeper. So let’s say 13th is par for Dyche.

Considering we would have finished round about there last season as well it’s not a far reach to think that we’ll be in a range of that again, perhaps under if injuries are bad, perhaps slightly over if they’re not and we hit some decent form.

If people are expecting more this season though then that really should be directed at the squad quality. Otherwise you’re asking a manager who you think is a complete clown and can’t train a tactics session to outperform his squad quality by a considerable amount just to even make the top ten. Thats illogical. You can’t think he’s the worst manager in the league but also hold a minimum expectation that he should be outperforming his peers.

I think we’ll end up at the end of the season exactly where our squad quality dictates, somewhere between 12th and 16th. It’s the reality of where we are. If we want to change the reality we have to massively invest in the squad.
Brentford are better than all the teams mentioned just above, including us. Wolves and Southampton are garbage, us, Ipswich, Palace and Leicester not much better.
