2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Don't agree with this to be honest. I thought up until their penalty we were edging it. The set-up wasn't the issue, I think the penalty gave Newcastle momentum and we never recovered/adapted (classic Dyche). But while the manager could have had more of an impact on the game, I do just think last night was their good players performing better than ours. N'Diaye, McNeil and Harrison turned down blind alleys all game and their centre backs too care of DCL easily enough.

We didn't get into any decent rhythm, but defended solidly enough. Those games will happen.
They were carving us open quite comfortably and we allowed them to.

Another of the Moyes legacy myths.
Check the the Ave league position under Moyes against out average place in the league for wages….

Finished above Villa in 07/08 and 08/09. They must've been spending way more on their squad given who they were signing back then, same for Spurs and perhaps also Newcastle who got relegated in those times.

Stunned that people seem to think we were competing with them. The points were shared but sometimes you don't get what you deserve in this game. We couldn't string a few passes together without losing possession and we consistently give them the ball back with our long ball game. If you want to know why our players are exhausted late on in games it's because we are having to chase the ball all game. We had a couple of chances but you expect that as the home team. Other than that they were walking through us and if it wasn't for their poor end product they would have won comfortably.

You can be content with a point and still point out that the performance was horrible to watch.

They didn't create a lot of big chances, but should won by one goal or so. We were off between min 30-60 especially, once Tim came on, I felt we kept the danger away again...

Was quite frustrating we had some good pass combos with 5 passes that looked promising, but then again another long ball in no mans land.

For the xG lovers here.

It was 0.69 Everton (that came about 0.6 from the one double chance we had with DCL/Gueye, to 1.79 x (which resulted in 1.04 without the pen).

I wondered that our clearance from the line only gave them about 0.15....

What did they give the Gordon chance late on. Was surprised to not see that hit the back of the net. That was a clear cut.

Me too mate, his skill set is going to surprise a few, most as we know have written him off.

My prediction is 10th-12th im going to be disappointed with anything below. The first few games didn't help, injuries and the fact the club have to work right up to deadlines also undermines the start. We're not going to win every game, will need to be pragmatic in a few, but we're a good competitive PL side, we've added more of what we needed creatively.

The challenge for NDiaye and McNeill and i think we saw this yesterday - is teams are now crowding them NDaiye had two on him when he got the ball yesterday and McNeill was sandwiched by a 6 and central defender when he got the ball - teams learn and that a challenge they and we have is to adjust to.

Do feel with a forward with a different skill set to Dom, we would hum better.
I expect maybe a bit lower than that, tbf. 13/14th from us would be about right for the squad we have. I think we're a more than decent bottom half of the table team.

As for Ndiaye and McNeil: Ndiaye is a classic ball hugger. No matter who's around him his tendency is to get control of the ball and keep his head down and slalom in and out of opponents. It's great to see when it comes off and reminds us all of those kids at school who were brilliant at doing it. He's a real throwback and a treat in that respect.

McNeil must be brought into the game more. Yes, Garner could service him with balls to feet, but my inclination is to keep Garner at RB as he adds much needed balance. Regardless, McNeil and DCL need to be playing closer to each other.

It'll be fascinating to see what happens when a force like Broja steps into this team. He's be a hard running CF who enjoys hunting with a partner.

I see Davek and the Dychettes are still trying to convince themselves and any fool who will listen to their twaddle, that Sean is still the second coming of Jesus Everton Christ, and we should be kissing his hairy ginger toes for delivering us to football nirvana. 😴😴😴😴😴😴

If we’re a lower midtable squad then why are we apparently aiming for 17th and why is the manager going to be hailed as a miracle worker if we finish there?

Who has said we’re aiming for 17th and who has said he’ll be a miracle worker if he gets us 17th this season?

I doubt anyone can aim for 17th, you try and finish as high as you can but equally just because we want to win the league doesn’t mean a squad that’s probably somewhere between 13-16th best is going to do it.

Spot on analysis- we were dreadful on the ball yesterday- second half we were just hoofing it long expecting calvert lewin to out jump dan burn and even if he somehow won it there was no-one within 20 yards of him. The only attack we had was because tonali passed the ball straight to mcneil.

I’m tolerating this dross this season as its the culmination of lack of investment in the team over a sustained period and we’ve got a very limited manager with one job - to keep us in the league.

Next season however, assuming the takeover goes through, i expect a hell of a lot better - new coach, new stadium, new philosophy.
