2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

There's a lot of good sense in this.

Personally I think it's not unreasonable to benchmark to a previous season, but there does out to be some context.

The lumpiness has to be factored in as stated. Id also add
1) We didn't have a lot of injuries, this season we have
2) We lost a lot of players, and are one of the few teams to have a net transfer profit
3) We won a lot of games by a narrow margin last season.
4) If you factor in the 2 prior seasons, we have 39 and 36 points. That's probably a bigger, and better data set than just last season.

Which point above people wish to give most weight to is open to discussion, and honestly I don't have enormous preference. But in each has to be factored in. I remember under Moyes, we would win a lot of games narrowly, then lose a lot of games narrowly the following year/season. It wasn't that he was an inherently inconsistent manager, but the margins he was working to are fine.

There seems to be an assumption we have a strong squad. I personally don't see that. I remember seeing Fulham at Goodison recently, undoubtedly well coached, but thinking probably 7/8/9 of their outfield players get into our team. And without being disrespectful to Fulham, they are not one of the traditional big 6, or Villa/Brighton/Newcastle who seem to be the closest challengers. They are a mid table team, and their squad looks far better than ours.
Disagree totally about a lot of injuries, we’ve basically lost one of our regular back 5 from last season and one midfielder, is mangala better than Garner ??? And we’ve added ndaiye who’s a regular and lindstrom who’s an upgrade on Dobbin.

Yes the beach has suffered because we’ve had a few squad injuries, but with Everyone fit, id argue our squad is better than 6/7 other squads.

Agree, also the vast majority of our injuries seem to come in training sessions.

I think it's difficult to tell whether that's the case. We've not necessarily had that many people having to be stretchered off, but that doesn't mean that their injuries aren't picked up during the games. It's very common for a player to have a little niggle during a game but carry on, then a couple of days later it still doesn't feel right and they get checked out and ruled out for the next however long. To us on the outside that looks like a training injury, but the reality is it happened in the game. Of course it's something else to moan about so most people will take the opportunity to do so.

Branthwaite Patterson Coleman Garner Iroegbunam Chermiti Broja

That’s 7 players who have all missed significant game time this season. 3 of those would be in the first team.

Its absolutely had an impact. Imagine if even just Branthwaite had played against Bournemouth and Villa we’d perhaps be looking at a few more points.

Aren’t runs here and there what a season is made of though? If we’re going to say that was an outlier, then surely the 13 game winless run, season to season is an outlier as well? If we don’t have either runs, do we pick up broadly similar points anyway?

Whether you see us as 12th or say, quality wise 16th surely the aim should be for the manager to maintain (give or take) or improves where possible (so if we take the latter position, say a finish target 13th or 14th) but it looks currently like the team will be down on this, which is on the manager. At the end of the day we do have to have targets and there’s no point having regressive targets.

That 13 game run is over egged imo.

Don't get me wrong, it's not really good enough to go that long without a win, but the reality of it is, we lost 7 out of 13. In those 7 games, there was 2 defeats to City, a defeat at Old Trafford, and a defeat at Spurs.

There were arguably respectable/good points earned at Brighton and Newcastle, and maybe Villa and Spurs at home.

There was 4 really disappointing results for me in that period - Drawing with Fulham at Goodison and the home defeats to West Ham and Bournemouth. Wolves away was dismal too.

The 13 game run was also sandwiched between 4 consecutive wins, and 4 wins out of 5.

Based on the evidence we have, Chermiti was almost certainly gonna be the main competition for Dom's place this season too.

Again utter nonsense, which 3. Branthwaite is the only certainty. Garner is not like our best CM by a mile, he’s had some good games last season and some very bad ones. And Coleman hasn’t been fit for 18 months and has hardly had great ganes when he’s played , id pick young over him every week.

If you asked 100 fans for their best 11’s
100 would pick Branthwaite, probably 50% Garner and 25% Coleman and most of them would be a sympathy vote.

The same principle applies even if you just say Branthwaite though (he even said that in his post). Branthwaite is arguably both our best and most important player. Last season he started 35 games (and people cryarsed the hell out of him not starting 2 of the other 3) and this season he has already been unable to start 9 and has seemingly not been fully fit for the 2 he has. Obviously if you're totally dense you'll say this is making an excuse for Dyche, but the reality is it's just a simple statement of fact that not having Branthwaite available as much as he was last year is something that is likely to impact our performance year on year. It's not an insurmountable obstacle that justifies whatever happens but it's also not something you can just ignore and pretend isn't relevant, because it absolutely is.

No chance he was going to slate the club live on TV, that's StillRyan he's a content creator with links to the club and mates with a couple of the players e.g. McNeil.

Never seen the lad before I don’t think, usually it’s Baz from Toffee TV. It begs the question as to why he’s on there if his views are compromised doesn’t it. I mean the way he comes across it’s borderline obedience.

Going a quarter of a season without winning a single game, picking up 7 points from 39 would see most managers sacked

It most certainly isn’t over egged because it’s one of the worst run of forms in our history
