2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

They didn't miss a pen, Pickford saved it. And if we had any attacking composure yesterday, or vs Chelsea, which we've lacked and I've long said dictates bad times - we'd have won.
Against both Chelsea and city and Arsenal, if they had attacking composure they also would have won. Chelsea had exactly the same sort of gilt edged chances we did.

Yesterday, we could have been 3 down before we even had a shot (post, goal and Silva through on goal). we were fortunate they didn’t have the composure either.

It’s all ifs and buts for both sides. Ultimately, draws are very good results against those 3 teams.

But Dyche needs to start finding wins against the mid table/bottom half teams.

The next 8-10 games i think are huge.

This is blip territory from last season, were we went from January to almost April. We have to do better then that.

These are the games we struggle with, the ones we have an identity crisis with whether to play as we have done or be more open and go for wins and get caught caught on the counter - especially at home.

There is a real opportunity to cut Leicester adrift over the next few - we need to take it.

Have to say I'm more nervous and apprehensive heading into this "easier run" - i think these are the game we suffer an identity crisis and struggle with.
Ditto. I said to my son this morning, Everton are renowned for struggling with the games we should do well, and somehow get results when we shouldn't.

We've ground out results because we've been able to play to Dyche's strengths (compact, back to the wall and controlled), but we will now need to play football.

Forest will likely come to us expecting to win due to their great run of form, however I'm worried Dyche will see it as another opportunity to be defensive.

Ultimately, it is wins that will push us to safety, and they are few and far between. April is another difficult month, so for me, we need a few ins in January to March.

You do reconginize you're living in a world of 'if all the things that would've made us lose the game happened, then we would've lost the game'
But that’s the complete same as saying, it’s all ok because if we had more composure, we would have won them.

It works both ways.

The results were good against some of the top teams. But we now need to find some wins against the rest.

Having that pace/ability to create and score is ultimately why those teams win most of their games.

And predominantly why we haven't for 3-4 years under multiple managers.

You see, as I've said and ultimately been proven correct in every summer for years now under 3 managers - the players we have in the final third or wide areas including full back havent got the pace, or attacking ability to score the goals that keeps us away from relegation fodder.

Drop Harrison vs Forest for a guy who hasn't scored a goal in nearly 3 years/80 appearences in Lindstrom.

We have an attack with players who have never created/scored the goals in their careers that gives us baseline to keep us away from the bottom half. We have a full back we can't change who is approaching 100 league games without a single premier league assist.

I don't care who the manager is, this team needs big investment.

No one’s telling me that even with the numbers our players put up that we couldn’t be going to Southampton or Leicester and getting a win. Their defences are terrible.

And Southampton have worse scoring records than us yet still managed to score against us despite our defensive record.

We can’t complain about fullbacks when we have a more offensive fullback like Patterson who despite limited game time last season still got a few assists, just being left on the bench pretty much every game. Young could go LB and Patterson RB or he could even go RW instead of Harrison like Coleman played at his age. There are options to change things but Dyche wont swap out Myko regardless because he generally puts up good defensive numbers.

Young’s been one of our most creative player this season at right full.

He’s been superb.

Because they set up for us to have posession and attack, which we can't do

The Chelsea and City fans will be saying the same things on their forums, though. "If we'd scored the penno or if Bernardo had a bit more composure in front of goal we'd have won that". We lose the xG (makes me feel dirty writing that) in almost every game, and while that's a rather bald statistic it does mean that we are creating less than the opposition on the whole, so the whole "if only the players would just take their chances, we'd be much higher up the table" argument holds little water. The last three games have given us more points than I expected and it is three very good points against good opposition but the reality is that we are only 3 points clear of the drop zone (with a game in hand against the RS). Dyche needs to find ways to win matches, we won't draw ourselves out of trouble.

I agree he has been good. It was more pointing out that there are other options though.

Fair and good point mate and wouldn’t wholly disagree. ;)

If the season ended today Young would be with a strong shout for POTY.

Such has been his influence I’d be reluctant to mess about with him.

We desperately need an alternative to Myko, priority 1 for me in the window!

Ashley Young with his goal and 3 assists this season has only created two big chances.

A generation butchered and damned.

Well yeah him passing the ball 5 yards to Ndiaye at Leicester for him to dribble through and score isn’t a big chance. Or passing it 5 yards to McNeil to smack one in from 30 yards isn’t a big chance. Shocker.
