2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Priding yourself on clean sheets and not attempting to win games are not the same thing though are they? I mean quite how we can say trying to keep clean sheets is a bad thing I don't really know, but that's where we're at I suppose. The post I was responding to is an example of what i'm talking about (fairly obviously really), this whole idea of us never trying to attack and the full backs never crossing the halfway line is just not true. We do try to attack but we're rubbish at it. Much of that - although by no means all of it - is obviously down to the tactics and coaching, but it's daft when people make out we haven't tried to win games or the only reason the full backs don't get assists is because they aren't allowed to leave their own box. We're not exactly all out attack obviously but we're nowhere near as conservative as people make out - we're just really bad in an attacking sense.
Coleman literally said we went to the Etihad for a point in his post match presser. I would argue that that is evidence that we are not attempting to win games.

And Dyche literally said we didn't but we can just choose to believe what we want I suppose. City away is a slightly different kettle of fish anyway to be fair and wasn't really what I was talking about. I've seen people say we didn't try to win at home to Brentford or Fulham or away to Southampton which is completely ridiculous, we clearly did. If you can't see the difference between being crap and executing things badly and not trying then that's on you I think.

Not saying to try and keep a clean sheet is a bad thing. I was inferring that there has to be a balance. The main objective has to be to win and I am sure he tries to do that, but his first most overriding though in my opinion is not to lose.

Whilst I accept the sub standard quality of players at his disposal, his safety first approach is also ironically his biggest flaw. This has a knock on effect on the number of wins under his belt and it is whilst all points are of equal value, wins are what we need to drag us out of the mire.

He always mentions that the players need to keep their defensive shape, but that means more difficult transitions - sometimes you just have to commit men forward (to be fair like the 4 vs 2 against City) - but people are not saying he does not want to score. Of course he does….he just does not know how to find the balance to do it.

Ah Sean Dyche, the well known bastion of honesty and truth. I like that we’re now taking everything he says as gospel btw, that’s up my street that game, I’m about to have a field day with it.

Regardless, Dyche is not the man for the future. Also, I suspect that having the right football face matters in some small way when negotiating stadium sponsorship and naming rights.

If the Friedkins aren’t careful, they could end up with a brand new stadium called the Bovril Bowl.

Ooh, you started all sensible but then got all salty and pissy with your last sentence.

As for choosing what to believe, I'll always choose to believe the players on the pitch over a man who has won one away match in over a year. I'm sure Dyche hopes to spawn a set piece goal but he sets them up not to lose. If you can't see that then that's on you, I think. To paraphrase your foot stamping.

It’s almost as if after multiple managers it might actually be…*whisper it*…the players are the problem after all.
No they’re not the problem.

It’s Manchester United, they’re entitled to winning trophies. They won a game a couple of months ago, why can’t the manager reproduce that week in week out?

Sacksacksack

I think he's gone if we lose against Bournemouth.

Looking at the January fixtures, there are no easy matches but there needs to be at least a 6 point return from them. If we can't beat some of those squads we will be in trouble.

Given the timing of the window, I tend to agree. The "we told them to play like this and they didn't listen" doesn't help.
