2022/23 Sean Dyche

Cautiously optimistic about Dyche. He is a manager who spent the time away from the game improving himself and evolving as a manager as per interviews. Dyche is a manager who knows how he wants to play, what kind of players he wants and how to grind out points. At the very least I think we will have a team with structure and well understood game plan come next season. But the most important thing is that he KNOWS what he wants. No ifs and buts.

What I like about Dyche is that he makes adjustements during the matches and changes tactics between games. Apart from Martinez in his first season, none of our managers have done that. For example Koeman and Allardyce would never make any changes to their approach, even if it wasn't working at all.

Yesterday was a brief preview of that adjustability during a match. After the goal, we went defensive looking for counter attacks. And apart for few heart attacks, it worked. We got those quick counter attack opportunities and Bournemouth had hard time getting to our box.
I liked his interview yesterday. It’s going to take time to turn this shower around. We can’t go from nearly relegated to European footy overnight. He did an exceptional job at Burnley until it went a bit stale. Every manager has a shelf life at clubs. He’s not going to play free flowing football but that’s not what we need right now.

Get us 13th/14th next season and that’s a good performance IMO.

Think with a full year under his belt stupid mistakes under Lampard will fade away and Dyche will mold his combatants. FFP has done a number on us and we will be bargain basement for awhile. Expect untested youngsters with upward potentials to fill the gaps. Need Coleman for one more year for sure and hope he plays in the new stadium.

Dyche spoke so well after the game yesterday.

He deserves a chance to try and build something. He’s worked with tight budgets before.
He definitely deserves a go in my opinion. Squad has to be improved and he’ll do okay with us I reckon. It would be madness to sack him unless there is a very clear plan on who we are getting in and how our recruitment will work. Which you just know would not be the case.

Circumstances different to when we had Big Sam. The crowd was on his back and expectations were higher and we had more money to spend.

Find it bizarre some folk have the daggers primed for him.

It's that mentality which also needs changing as its only come about because Moshiri brought it in.
We can’t keep firing managers. Realistically we aren’t going to turn into a top half team overnight. If Dyche stabilises the team then the time to reassess will be in a couple of years. He might not be the right long term choice if we want to do a Brighton so to speak but he should hopefully steady the ship.

How many managers have we said this about in preseason, though?

What's the actual plan, Everton?!

That's what I want to know.
Exactly, dont let Dyche or any new manager pick certain players because thats how weve ended up in this mess.

Let the DoF do his job or get rid of the role altogether.

I'm pretty sure I've been consistent in saying that sacking managers isn't really a problem. Hiring bad ones is.
Well yes. But I wouldn’t call Dyche a bad manager. The problem is the board and recruitment being utterly incompetent. But sacking a manager who has done okay with very limited options is not necessarily the right approach.
