100% He was a nice surprise in that he didn’t sit back like Allardyce and actually showed that he could get some use out of otherwise useless players. Got the job done and deserves some backing. Some people didn’t like him when he signed up and are just sticking to their guns. He’ll have us comfortably safe next season if he’s allowed to add a few players which is all we can ask for after the last 2 years.
He was never an Allardyce and that is where people get the wrong idea about him. I’m not going to put him in the tactical genius category or X’s and O’s category- he is more of a psychological manager. He wants the players to feel like they accomplished something after the game is played. We went entire halves and then some pressing which is something we haven’t seen from an Everton side in some time. The fitness levels were vastly improved. We started taking a lot of long distance shots and getting shots on target. Again that makes the players feel good and feel like they are involved.

He knows what he is doing. He isn’t a defensive or attacking manager so much as a combative one. One complaint I have with him is the end product needs to be better. Maybe better players bring that but that is the area that he really needs to improve on his end.

Just looked behind the sofa, went on google and tried that fifa footie think but I can’t find this footballing genius who comes free of charge and is willing to join this once mighty club and turn these players into world beaters overnight, or even magic world class players out of the blue…

There are exceptions but he does lean on experience a lot
tbf though I only have Burnley to go by
Hope he continues to give more youngsters a go, younger than Garner too because we may need a lot of that going forward when you compare it to Brighton's model

….see my post above, he’ll only give them a chance if he thinks they’re good enough. It’s then up to the player to grasp the opportunity. We can’t use the first team to ‘try’ youngsters. Dyche and the coaches will make judgement calls, that’s the way it should be.

If he thinks he’s got a very talented youngster they will get game time but they’ll have to be ‘very talented’ to make the step up.

This is a player bought as a first teamer for £12m btw that was basically only put in the side when we were decimated by injuries.

….Garner was also injured but he grasped his opportunity when it arose.

If Dyche and the coaches think they have a specially talented youngster, I have no doubt they will get opportunities but they will have to be ‘specially talented’ to make the step-up. If players don’t get opportunities it’s because they’re not considered good enough. That’s the way it should be.

We can’t use the first team to ‘trial’ youngsters. Very few we release come back at top level clubs, perhaps Antonee Robinson is one we can highlight.

He had McNeil playing games for Burnley at 18.

He’s said in interviews himself he enjoys developing young players as he was a youth coach initially and as you say, if they are good enough then they will get chances and it’s up to them to take them.

I like the look of Mills too and think he’ll get chances this season. A winger that can get back and defend, good pace and stamina, also scored a lot of goals for the u21s. Long term could be perfect on the right of our midfield.

After doing a great job with a garbage squad in keeping us up i hope he doesnt read this and the opinions of some of the so called Evertonians who want him gone and replaced by some sort of expansive football playing genius. Like who? Ffs back the guy this season and lets see where we end up instead of always crying and wanting something we are not getting.
Totally this.

I just don't get the calls to replace him, he's exactly what we need at the moment.

I don’t think we’ll see Mills kick a football this season.

It will be interesting to see if Cannon gets until January to make an impression. I hope he does but if they deem it more beneficial for him to get a full season in the Championship then fair enough.

Though with our financial situation, I can see him being one of Calvert-Lewin's backups tbh

Great post. Some signs of also starting to use subs a little bit better....

He's ideal for our circumstances. And who knows maybe he can grow with us in terms of playing more attacking football. Not having a CF or keeping Burnley up (or re-promoted) annually isn't exactly a platform for the beautiful game. I love the way he respects the club and actually he's made more attacking use of Doucoure, McNeil, Iwobi and others than Lamps and co.

Feeling quietly hopeful of an uneventful 12-16th berth in the table, not expecting much from cups (but would be nice to see a few of our youngsters, Mills etc given a few games). All whilst the stadium and all that THAT offers comes a season closer.

Keep calm and back Dyche.

Would any of us on here have selected Garner to play right back in that final game of the season, only one game but I don’t think any player in the squad could have played better than James did in that game, so give Dyche and his coaches credit for that.

It is suggested that without certain players performances we would have been relegated, all the players Dyche inherited had played for Lampard and put us in the bottom three, I’d say if Lampard hadn’t got the push and Dyche brought in we’d have definitely gone down, Dyche and us, the crowd, dragged us from going over the edge and the players responded to that looking fitter and more determined than they had under Lampard.
I’d say Dyche earned the good bonus he got along with a couple more seasons to prove he can get us to more than just staying in the premier league.

Whilst true, I do actually think he deserves an incredible amount of praise for his tactics since he's come in.

Only have to look back at that performance down in Brighton. Brighton want the opposition to come at them when the ball is with their center halves, once that happens, they then quickly pick you off with their direct, forward passes into the midfield before then getting it much further up the pitch or into the wide areas. Dyche and his team ensured that we didn't press high and instead allowed them to come forward with the ball and try and pounce on any mistakes - which conveniently happened in the first 30 seconds. Worked magnificently for us!

Mina and Calvert-Lewin, both the best options for their positions when fit, were hardly available. Garner, who showed in his limited game time just how good he was, was out for a while with that back injury. Mykolenko and Godfrey suffered injuries, both right backs became unavailable at the same time. Our strikers options were Maupay, Simms and Gray. Doucoure was missing for 3 and a bit games due to suspension as well.

All of these along with the fact that the rest of the squad isn't very good, and yet Dyche somehow still managed to keep us up, I still find it a miracle!

That's fair
Overall I'm happy with Dyche regardless
He's exactly the kind of 'roll up your sleeves and get on with it' type of manager we need during this boardroom and financial fiasco

To be honest he was out of the squad for a decent period himself and had to work his way back including getting match fitness, if he stays free from injury I think Everton have got a very good player with a football brain who can be utilised in various positions although I’d like him to be a permanent performer in central midfield.
