The difference is these teams have huge revenues. We wasted some money, sure, but does that mean we shouldn’t ever be able to spend anything ever again? United wasted far more than we did, but can just keep spending over and over again every window. Arsenal bought Aubemayang Lacazette Pepe for close to 200 million, decided they didn’t want them, let them all go for barely anything and can still just go out and buy Jesus Trossard Martinelli.

People are using the fact we haven’t recruited very well to argue against the there being a ginormous chasm between the sky six and the rest.

We could have had the best recruitment in the world, but ultimately the only way we can match those revenues is by consistently buying low, selling high, and somehow staying in the CL at the same time. Meanwhile the sky six can just spend spend spend without limitation.
We hit the jackpot once and instead of using half a brain cell and using it wisely, we basically just took it Vegas and gambled it all. Like you said, we had no huge revenues but decided to ignore that pay Europe/Champions league fees/wages for crap and managers players and we’ve crashed because of it.

The gap to the Sky 6 is huge but I’m not buying this ‘mission impossible’ attitude of ‘poor us, as they can do what they want and we have no chance’. It’s a poor excuse to blame the Sky 6 for our demise

We only have ourselves for the situation we’re in now and it’s solely down to our truly idiotic owner and his completely inept board members.

They voted for it but the big problem you've got with the two systems in place now is that it doesn't allow for the investment in the club like abramovich did. The owner can't just say he's a couple of hundred million for players anymore (at least that's my take on it). It was specifically (FFP that is) to remove the chance of another man city or psg pushing the big boys like Real Madrid etc off the top table.
I agree on a problem with FFP is owners can't spend what they want to but equally, owners should not be able to sign the club up to unsustainable debt. I think it would be improved if the owners could spend what they like, but had to put all funds to cover the cost of the debt into an escrow account which is available to the club until the debt is cleared. There can't be a situation where a club can commit to X hundred million of debt and then run for the hills when things are looking bad and the club is left with debt it can't service.
The system had to be changed to stop what was happening and just like any loophole those that exploit it prior to it being closed will unfairly benefit. That is just life and not a conspiracy to protect certain clubs. Fans of clubs that want to reach the next level / tier of football will always look for theories that are designed to keep them from doing so when the problem is down to poor management. Look at Toon, they have only spent about 230m and they have got themselves into 4th. In recent years both of our clubs have spent in excess of that.
The door to the top level is not shut, it is difficult to get through but good management (at all levels in the club) is required.

They’re different things though.

we’re down at the bottom because we’ve recruited poorly and wasted money - absolutely

But if we’d spent it wisely it’s highly unlikely we’d be challenging at the top.

People can say that Leicester or Brighton have recruited better than us sure, but trying to make out that we could have been up where Arsenal or City are if we’d spent money better in 17/18 is ridiculous.

Its not.

Spurs managed it, Newcastle are about to manage it.

Its not impossible.

Agreed but I think the system even stops an owner just making cash available to the club in anyway other than growing the commercial side of the club. Which when you consider that teams like Madrid were paid £250m by the Madrid council equivalent for their training ground and then had it gifted back to them. The systems been bent to suit the "big" clubs to ensure they remain eating at the top table. They even now get entry into the champions League if they don't qualify through the league position just another example of favourable rules for those teams.

They are doing this on purpose Tim, don't let them get to you.

Football club is acting like a petulant child to it's fanbase.

Funnel that anger into removing them.
I've wondered if that was the case myself. I can just imagine Billy Liar telling the comms team not to release anything untill they have to , just to popcorn the fans. He's realised that he has blown it with his latest attempt of lying to remove pressure, headlock gate, and he is petulantly winding us up as a revenge.

If it also gives them a "We only had a manager for 2 days" excuse if they cant get the work done in the transfer window.
