We can undoubtedly improve our player trading profit and loss to give us more room but we’ve actually sold Lukaku Stones Gueye Richarlison Digne Lookman Gordon all at the top of their market value for us. It’s the buying side that has been absolutely dreadful.

Those top teams had huge sponsorship deals before regulations shut the door, that’s the point, it makes it extremely difficult for a team outside this established group to break in.

Leicester or Villa could have their best season ever whilst United or Spurs finish tenth but if they both go out for a kit sponsor that summer then there’s no way the first two get a higher value deal than the second.

Chelsea have been extremely good at player trading no doubt, but what about United, who have they sold recently? Arsenal allowed Ozil Aubemayang Lacazette and Pepe to just fall off their deals, and then just dropped 100s of millions all over their team to replace them. Liverpool haven’t sold anyone for decent money since Coutinho. Can Wijnaldum Lallana Origi all walked out for nothing. Doesn’t affect their spending at all.

The gate was shut behind an established group of teams and now it’s extremely difficult to prize it open. You’d an go back and point the finger at the people at Everton who let us fall away from this top group over the PL years absolutely and that is fair but just denying that the financial regulations cause barriers for teams wanting to get in this group now is ridiculous.

Who cares if we ever are allowed to win ought so long as I can get a cheeky £1 acca on whilst City vs Liverpool finishes 3-3 every season.

Not much you can do about it. Whos to tell Newcastle a Saudi owned company cannot sponser SJP for £30 millions a season ?

UEFA would get owned in court and everyone knows it.
The FA tell them, it is written in the rules for Profit and Sustainability. Sponsorship rates must be at market value and the club must be able to prove it is market value. It is explicit that they can't simply claim that it is market value because the company agreed to pay that amount.

Just like nobody told us that Usmanov couldnt give us 30m to be able to bid for naming rights.

Exactly which is the reason why Usmanov was never "officially" involved with the club.

Unless you've a best mate who's a multi billionaire happy to cook you doped up sponsers or are owned by a Gulf State who can use national owned companies to do the same you've zero chance in the modern game.

Our shirt sponser is worth more than Leicester who've won a League Title and FA Cup whilst we've been stuck in midtable for that period.

People think its easy to "just improve sponsers" but an independent sponser isn't going to throw Chelsea/Liverpool/Utd style cash at you without you having a global fanbase and regular CL football otherwise it doesn't make viable business sense for them to do so.

Chicken and egg situation - good luck getting CL football for a decade while adhering to FFP and building a profile big enough to get Nike, Maccies etc lobbing £50+ mil sponsers at you.
