You've just inspired me to have a look at the team that walloped us 0-4 at Goodison in 2005, during the spell where it seemed like we lost by that scoreline every week.

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, O'Brien, N'Gotty, Jaidi, Speed, Nolan, Faye (Djetou 84), Okocha (Hunt 67), Giannakopoulos, Diouf (Vaz Te 73), Davies.
Subs Not Used: Walker, Nakata

Goals: Davies 32, Giannakopoulos 75, Speed 79 pen, Giannakopoulos 80.

Slap head Stelios looked like one of the world's great players that night.

Of course, by the time Allardyce turned up at Everton, he couldn't be arsed with such signings and instead blew £50m on Tosun and Walcott.
Made a bunch of mercenaries and off cuts into a formidable side. Had Campo ffs. The mercenaries Everton signed were Bolaise and co ffs.

Big decisions this weekend - who to play at right back, whether to go back to a midfield three with one up top.

From his press conference, reckon he’ll go with Godfrey at right back. Can’t say I’m too happy about that when he’s so poor and we have a natural right back in Paterson back at full fitness.

Re midfield, less sure what he’ll do here but Simms and Gray in the middle were ineffective in the press so can’t see him going with that set up again. Think he will go back to a three in the middle but whether it’s Davies or Garner no clue.

Big calls, why he gets paid the big bucks.

He hasn't done anything that the likes of Pulis, Allardyce, Pardew and Hodgson haven't, and the only reason he's here is because the club was in such a desperate state.

His limitations and ceiling are obvious. We're not obliged to pretend that he's something he isn't just because he's in the Everton job.
I don’t think you can know where his ceiling is given he’s only really been at Burnley.

Simply has to be Patterson and Garner brought in and has to decide on Gray or Simms for top spot.

Godfrey shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11 after that shambolic 45 minutes last week and Garner isn't actually scared of the football so should be in. Biggest decision is which one out of Garner, Gueye and Onana do you tell to simply sit in front of the back 4 and protect that space and not go wandering off like a stupid tit.

Agree has to be Patterson. Also I would like to play onana in the deeper role, allow gana to win the ball further up the pitch. Then givers garner to free roam and hopefully get on the ball and make something happen.

You’d think but he kind of brushed off Paterson when asked in press conference, more like setting the expectations that he wouldn’t start him. Completely agree Godfrey shouldn’t play, particularly after last week!

I’d get Garner in there too - I’d push Onana into the Doucoure role but there are big decisions to make in there for sure!!

Yep i thouht similar regarding Patterson. If he isnt fit, well its his job and the coaches job to get him fit as there was another u21 match midweek that he could have played if he's lacking minutes.

Either way, he has to get it absolutely spot on tomorrow. In the main and what he's got at his disposal he's giving it a good go, though we have only won 1 game in the last 7 and last weeks headline of "Evertons unbeaten run ends at Utd" basically covered over that the run was just 1 win sandwiched between 3 draws.

It's not great form by any stretch (regardless of who the opposition is as all that matters are picking up some wins) , certainly not the kind that has me thinking we aren't one of the favourites to still go down.

Tomorrow is simply a must win 3 points at all costs and he has to get the team selection right no ifs or buts.

I don't think people fully recognize the downside of this approach. "Stability" isn't great when you're only out of the drop zone on goal difference. Improvement is necessary.
Stability is the starting point, you can't move forward until you have stabilized a club. We are in a very scary position, so to some people that might sound like a dangerous approach. But you only have 2 options, All out or bust or Stabilize. Basically ( Bielsa - Dyche ) We try going all out with our squad, we will bust. We stabilize that squad then we should start picking up points we weren't and possibly hold a position come end of season.

This is why we chose dyche. Treading water is never going to be a fun journey, but you have more of a chance of not sinking!!

True, but I'd argue that managers are given chances at higher levels based on what they've shown elsewhere.

It doesn't always work out for the likes of Potter, Rodgers, Moyes, etc - but they get a go because they've had teams playing the way bigger clubs want.

Whatever his team selection\tactics some posters will moan and others will praise him.
If we get the right result he will be praised by the majority on here. If we don't, then (with the benefit of hindsight) most will criticise.
Such is forum life. 🤷‍♂️

Harsh that given 2 of the 3 draws were against Spurs when down to 10 men for 35 minutes and Chelsea away.
