So, you're saying Beto should have been on earlier as he's our main striker - but we shouldn't be risking players?

He's rested a couple and Gana was at AFCON so this is what else he had;

... You're saying he should have rested McNeil and Harrison. Who comes in for them two on the wings?

After 4 losses on the spin, we didn't have the luxury of throwing the game, we had to try an stop the rot. An away clean sheet is something to take into Aston Villa on 14th Jan.
Last 20 minutes or so was going to cut right down on the possibility of Beto getting injured. But I'd have had Chermiti on and chanced that, because the important thing was getting through that match in tact.

That cup game will have no bearing on Villa mentality wise. You could see how half hearted that game was last night. It would have been a lot more intense as a PL encounter so all you do is maximise suspension and injury chances.

It's down to how you view the cups now. Ok to go for if you have your PL status sorted out but taking a massive risk of shooting yourself in your own foot if you dont.

Only silver lining was Coleman got almost 100 minutes into his legs and he needed it.

And what if Pickford got injured? Today would have been "THAT'S ON YOU DYCHE!" would it not?
Benching Pickford underlines that Dyche knows the benefit of resting a player for a cup game. Why he then chose his best outfield 10 to contradict that is anyone's guess.

Look, managers - and we all know this - have tended to back heel cup competitions if they know they have a job on staying in the PL. What I'm saying isn't outlandish in any respect.

Our top flight status has to be maintained at all costs. Fighting a cup tie with your best outfield players apart from Doucoure and Gueye when you're one point off the relegation zone and in a season when we had 10 points taken off us was reckless beyond question. He took a chance and it backfired. That's down to him. His call.

I don't buy into this idea that we played really well yesterday like Dyche has said, yes we where the better team but we where atrocious in the final third. Absolutely dreadful game all around and it's what itv deserve for picking it.

I agree. It was a terrible game. Two clueless teams hoping for a deflected goal to settle it.

The players dont put it in for cup games unless it's later stages. That was a typical "the pressure is off us" cup match.

We as evertonians probably deserve to be in a state of chaos.

We are worlds away from where we've been the past two seasons. We should be sitting comfortably on 26 pts, got to a cup quarter final, had 10 pts deducted and STILL out of the relegation zone, we've had injuries to very key players, loads of bad press in the media, a man sent off last night in unjust circumstances and we still didn't lose. We'd have lost that game 3 nil pre Dyche.

AND STILL people are whinging about Dyche not being doing things the way they'd like him to.

Can't yous just enjoy not being in a state of utter chaos on the pitch?

Yes both teams made numerous mistakes but none of them were as bad as the referee made influenced by the pseudo refs.in the studio!

….those players get on that pitch and want to win that football match, I have no doubt about that. Full gate, live on telly, 3rd round of the FA Cup, 4.000 travelling Evertonians. To suggest players ‘don’t put it in’ is simply wrong.

i was encouraged by the performance. I thought we were better than Palace, I also think we lack quality in the top third which is why we‘ve continually struggled.

i think Dyche continues to get the best out of this squad of players. Wolves was disappointing but generally he’s getting this crew playing significantly better than in recent seasons. It’s uncomplicated but he and his coaches are doing a terrific job.

Many PL managers play their 2nd choice goalkeeper in cup games . There are a number of reasons for this , sometimes it’s an agreement they have that they’ll get some cup games, sometimes it’s to assess and ensure the 2nd choice is ready and had recent game time if he has to step up in the PL. Rarely do goalkeepers need resting particularly when the next match is 10 days away.

It was an awful spectacle. I popped my ITV4 cherry watching it. Not sure I'll be going back.

Pickford's picked up a couple of knocks in league games which I think highlighted to Dyche that Virginia needed some game time in case he's required later in the season.
