2023/24 Sean Dyche

Especially at the beginning, the players just looked absolutely terrified to do anything other than shuffle around in front of an Arsenal player. Like that had been so drilled into them as their only plan that they dare not deviate from it.

Has no ideas at all does he? Other than stay organized and defend for 90 minutes. But that idea doesn't even seem to apply to corners, where we look beyond amateurish, which obviously the other teams have sussed out given how we now see short corner routine after short corner routine where they just walk around us right into the box.

And the constant standing off any wide player who comes anywhere near the attacking third just begging them to send in a cross. Or giving Ashley Young every single set piece no matter how utterly crap it ends up every single time.

That's all on the manager. Honestly, the players look like a group that know beyond a doubt that he's not going to last, and they're just seeing out the time until the inevitable change. They're certainly not playing for him.
This thing about the short corners has been winding me up for ages

I am not a fan of Sean Dyche but have been against sacking him on two fronts, we need some stability and goodness knows who our lot would appoint. However after today I think he is not helping, I know it was Arsenal we were playing, I know we are not very good but surely we must try to get forward and score. It looked like we were going for 0-0 and once they scored that was that. Also why wait until the dying minutes to make substitutions.

Got to go for me, keeping him is prolonging the agony of what is inevitable.... affectively just wasting games and points.

Anyone saying "the best coaches in the world couldn`t get anymore out of this squad" like the other idiot in the other thread need to consider if football is your sport. Worst shout from any Evertonian, embarassing.

I never wanted him, but to be fair I don’t think many thought he’d turn good, just that he’d get us doing the Burnley basics right and help us become a boring, but effective team who are “hard to beat”.

Turns out we do the basics badly and are pretty easy to beat. Given the understood lack of upside to his appointment, his leash SHOULD be far shorter than his predecessors and the ice should be very thin, already.

As we know, though, it won’t be. If I was a gambling man, I’d say 31st Jan again.
Christ, I'd be suprised if he's gone by the end of the season with nobody in charge at the club.. fingers crossed for asap though.

I like him and I think we need to stick with him. However I’m struggling to see what his plan is with this team. What are the tactics? What is the style of play?

Two massive homes games against Luton and Bournemouth. Lose any of them and he’s in real trouble.

The rot is just too deep for the manager to make a blind bit of difference here. We look every bit as clueless as under Frank and the FSW.

Expected to lose today.

But they were poor that first half. And he changed nothing. That was winnable based on their first half performance yet he did nothing to try and do so.

Changed a like for like striker and then waited until 87 mins when we were chasing the game.
I don’t get it. The second part of todays tactic had to be to get them turned facing their goal with Beto hassling, with the aim of winning corners and deep throws. It was like half a game plan. Keep them out but give them the ball as often as possible.

No idea where Danjuma and McNeil were told to play when we had the ball. Their instruction appeared to be tuck in just in case we lose the ball, rather than we have the ball, create some width.

Only possible reason was he was terrified of a thumping, for his own job and making the players morale irreparable.
