2024/25 Sean Dyche

Possession in the first 4 games.

Brighton (h) 37%
Spurs (a) 29%
Bournemouth (h) 48%
Villa (a) 26%

This tells you all you need to know about this guys tactics and how he is setting us up purely to try and survive in games.

Does he even want to try and win games? It must be an absolute nightmare playing for such a one track minded, negative and uninspiring manager.

I mean if the club are happy and we've got so called supporters happy with just finishing 17th, that kind of backs up your point.

Ed: As things stand we'll be lucky to get anywhere higher than 20th.

Why am I a "so called supporter" if I think the clubs in limbo until we get owners and the finances sorted and until then just want us to stay up regardless of whether it's 17th or 10th or how we play?

It's a needs must situation in this current point in time, which to me is the closest to utter disaster the club has been in

I don't think "progress" or style of play or poor runs of form matter so much right now. So long as we don't look like really sinking then I'd prefer our inept club takes no action. I fear whatever change they might come up with way more than I do our chances of relegation under this manager.

I can't stand him, but I would give Dyche until the Ipswich away game. By then, we'll have a clear idea if he's lost the dressing room or not. His teams are known for being slow starters.

the last two games really have shown his limitations as a modern manager. 2-0 up in both and then the better, more tactically astute coach changes things and we crumble.
This narrative that the only reason managers like Dyche and Fat Sam play route one hoof-ball is because they've never had the players to do anything else is nonsense! This is all Dyche knows and if the last two games have proved anything it's that maybe these players can actually play a little football when asked - but i don't think the manager will let them. Hard work and graft is vital but will only get you so far. At this level tactics win games..

Yep. This ‘we don’t have the players to play football’ argument is nonsense too. Gana played 75 games for a PSG side that dominated the ball, and Onana was in the team that had 74% possession against us.

Jimmy Garner and McNeil were developed at Man Utd, Harrison at City. The players can do it if given the freedom to do so.

We have a limited squad no doubt , but this manager is no longer getting the best out of it or utilizing it as he should, full backs he absolutely cannot drop Ashely young ( tbf he played ok v Villa especially at left back) but the obvious choice was Roman Dixon the only defender who came out with any credit aginsy spurs, instead he throws on James garner a midfielder who was caught out of position for Villas first goal ,he compounds this by insisting on playing the hapless and hopelessly out of his depth Michael Keane who’s defensive capability is now that of a mid level championship player instead of Jake Obrien who actually looked ok when he came on , he sets us up to play without the ball which means when you get 2 golden chances like Dom has they have to go in, we sit back from the get go in these games it’s so frustrating ,even at 2-0 we looked like we didn’t get any confidence whatsoever it was time to go for the third and try bury any hope of a comeback but we retreated as per usual, Everton now need to make a decision ( if any of the board care ) what’s more expensive , relieving dyche of his duties or getting relegated because this cannot carry on

Frankly I feel any manager in the Championship could be doing a better job than Douche. He has a plethora of players at his disposal but we keep sticking to the same old XI and not winning ANY points! Why isn't he playing Dixon at Right back and O'Brien at CB with Tarkowski. We have conceded 13 times in 4 games. Why does he persist.
Because he is a stubborn idiot who is doubling down in the vain hope he can eventually say I told you so.

It’s definitely a twist or stick situation, both would be a risk.

I’d of been more willing to stick had he not reverted to playing Keane and Young again.

all fine margins though I guess. DCL puts one of those chances away Saturday and we’d not be as despondent.
