Sometimes a manager fits a national side. Coleman with Wales springs to mind, and I think its similar with Southgate. He has been very involved with the whole FA youth/St Georges Park project, which many of his England squad have progressed through for ages, and his methods at England seem to be working, for now anyrate.

Club management, imo, isnt his forte.
You have very kindly said that managing at international level is much easier than club level which is the case. It is why Coleman has had to take a lower league job and try to work up and I imagine if Southgate wants to continue after this he will be forced into the same.

Easier? Perhaps. Different for sure.

Martinez seems better suited for international management than club.

Not sure Mourinho could go the other way.

Interesting to read this week that the top players (ie those from nations in the last four) will have had 4 drug tests in the entire of 2018, or as a point of comparison, the same number as the current leader of the Tour de France has had this week. In an amazing turn of events, no players have failed a test in that time. Also worth noting for @Walken, @Tubey et al is that during the Vuelta last year Froome was tested 21 times during the race (or every day basically). I suppose if you don't bother looking though, you aren't likely to find anything.

Jogi Loew is another one. His club career was pretty mediocre but he fits what Germany have been doing for the last decade or so.
