Lets be honest I would expect our garbage team of last season to possibly make that semi final with the draw England have had. Tunisia, Panama, Colombia and Sweden. Hardly difficult teams really. Colombia was the most difficult one until tonight.

If English supporters are honest with themselves then they'll see we only got that far because of set pieces. This team couldn't do anything with the ball in open play. I blame the 3-5-2 for that.

It's alright when you can score off a corner and defend with 3 back all the time but when they were under the cosh they looked clueless in possession. Southgate did well with what is quite a one dimensional side, but he picked them and set it up that way. It might have worked out for them but some of their matches were crap to watch and the only time England looked half decent was against Panama and so the writing was on the wall for every England fan but most chose not read it.

Southgate and them did well with what they were but could have pulled that off today if they had some more composure to see it through. They shut off when they were defending, especially in extra time for that goal.

All in all it is a let down but one every England fan should have seen coming and be well accustomed to. They bottle it every time.

There's a difference between bottling it with a bunch of players under 25 playing their first tournament, to experienced title winners who were some of the best players in the world.

You have to think that England's chances of winning the next WC depend a lot on whether Everton can 'nurse' Capt Jags through the next four seasons. To win the WC, England really will rely on the unique leadership qualities that Capt Jags provides. He was missed in Russia

I think he should've played Lingard up with Sterling and Kane. Southgate was too conservative. 3-4-3 would've given a better balance.
Sterling did naff all this whole tournament and hasn't scored for England in years. He's fast and that's it. He can stay home next time. I don't have much time for Lingard either.

Personally they're two of the biggest culprits for not creating anything in open play imo.

There be the difference in technical ability these teams keep the ball they tire you out and pick you off if you don't take your chances
English footballers are blood and thunder give their all for 60/70 mins but always fall short

And just hoof it. We really need to learn how to play football.
