Transfer Rumour Sergio Agüero

Everton fans: 'There's something really strange about this club where every player's mentality is just really bad and they don't care and just phone it in, it makes no sense at all it must be a curse.'

Also Everton fans: 'Are you mad of course we should sign these players who will see us a retirement home and have absolutely no interest in busting a gut for us, for the 15 games a year they play they'll be worth every penny of their £200k a wages you must have no ambition.'

I do get where you are coming from, but is there not an argument that say Allan-an older player- has shown a top draw attitude this season compared to most?

When I think mentality, my worry is that a lot of the younger players who people want us to sign have let us down more. Holgate, Iwobi, Bernard etc. Just very little consistency and at times what appears to be arrogance.

Full disclosure- I would take Aguero if the price suited, but I can see the challenges. I'm not sure it's attitude though. The concern to me is likely to be his body really not being able to cope with the rigours of regular PL football. There is also an argument, that we don't create an awful lot of chances. Indeed most of the chances DCL gets, wouldn't really be the sort of chances Aguero would get (essentially overpowering defenders). There's a bit of generalisation in there, but the point is that a top draw poacher coming into a side that really doesn't attack very well is not a natural match.

I have to say since Moyes really, the leave it all on the pitch mentality has seemingly all but gone. Typical when we had a manager to really push the players... We didn't have a pot to wee in. I just hope Carlo manages to get rid of the rot and bring in actual talent with a will to win things still.

Personally I don't really see why Allan has a top drawer attitude? I'm not saying he doesn't, but i'm not sure what evidence there is of him having a totally different attitude to others? I've not really been that impressed with him if i'm honest, he's had some very good games and some very poor ones, and he's missed a lot of games through injury. He's clearly a talented player don't get me wrong, but his impact has been minimal, we still get totally dominated in the middle of the pitch every week. On the other hand I don't really see how Bernard's attitude can be seen to be a major problem when he's hardly been on the pitch.

Of course Bale and Aguero might come in and be just the catalyst we need, I don't have a crystal ball. Looking at it logically though, I don't really see how signing players in their mid 30s with dodgy injury records and who would clearly only be coming because we were offering the most money/ability to not move house, would improve the supposed mentality of the squad.

Are there actually people who wouldn't want Aguero and/or Bale? Bizarre.

That said, no way they are coming here

Although I pinch myself every time I see James on the pitch for us, so I guess anything is possible
I would say no to both.. neither (IMO) are what we need nor the type of player we should be trying to sign in the first place.
Aguero currently looks like Man-At-Arms and though he has been a helluva PL goalscorer over the past decade he's been playing in a side that create 31 direct goalscoring chances every 20mins for him.
The other fella is a complete mercenary and i dont see any reason why we should be after this type.
Though i'd guess neither want to sign for us anyway so all's good.

Yes fair points. There is always going to be a lot of conjecture on this, and the truth is, for the most part that we just don't know. For a long time I've felt that contrary to whats shown publicly Sigurdssons attitude is probably very good behind the scenes (as I suspect Phil Neville's was).

But I'll try and defend the assertions I've made. Allan has been a bit up and down, but to me his struggles are his body and physicality. I'm actually surprised how well he has done, when you comapre him to say Jorhinho, who was probably a slightly better player in Italy, who came over and has just not adapted in the way he did at Napoli. He came over a fair few years younger as well. For Allan to have done well (not outstandingly, but well) I put a lot of that onto the mentality he has. I also just watch him, and he just looks like a guy who approaches the game the right way. I appreciate you only get so much from watching on TV V in the ground and perhaps more importantly there are a lot of assumptions here, but it's just how I see it.

As for Bernard, no he hasnt played much this season but it's more an impression I have of him over the 3 years he has been here. He is just very inconsistent. Like with Iwobi, Holgate etc I do start to become a bit wary when players are erratic with form.

Maybe they are here for a payday. I think Bale is a far bigger risk of that than Aguero but that's always the risk. In general though, I always think with more experienced players, you tend to get people who have a better attitude but the trade off is the physicality.

it says something that this is not the worst post in this thread by any measure you care to name.

Delph - although I accept you are talking in general terms when you talk about the attitude of older players.

Yes very fair. I'll ask though, has Delph really got any worse in terms of attitude as he has got older?

I'd still say his biggest issue is his body.

Gazza

Ginola

Blomquist

Mark Hughes

E’too

Rooney

Delph

The only unqualified success with one of these “retirement home” players this century that I can think of is Gareth Barry.
I dont think signing Kun shud be seen as a player lookingfor retirement package. Kun has been victim of PEp's obsession with midfielders . From ibra to DAvid Villa to Etoo , i have rarely seen Pep being a big fan of strikers ( Lewa being an exception) . HE is more of a team full of midfielders and false 9 or whatever that maniac tries to complicate football :D :P . My point is , Kun still has a lot to offer and we shud pick him up before chelsea or someone else take him . On a free, he is a no brainer .

I wouldn't do it. Resembles bringing in Eto'o when Rom was on the verge of breaking out. DCL might have a slump and Aguero would start agitating to replace him but that isn't a good idea to just bench DCL indefinitely. If we aren't in Europe it would be even worse imo.
