I must say, I'm disappointed in Sheedy concerning this, that's why I haven't joined in. It looks worse on Kevin than Moyes that he didn't say it while Moyes was here (and presumably to his face) but waited until not only was he gone, but down and near out at United.
You were the biggest proponent of the Moyes-out argument. Not at any real point did I agree with you - the only manager I wanted and thought we had a chance of getting was Roberto Martinez(!) though I couldn't see it happening - but at least I could respect your reasoned, long-held stance. And if people were looking for any indication on the swing of the moral compass on this one, look no further than you davek.
It's the kind of thing I've been saying since we beat them 1-0. We got our victory, we even got £27.5m for Fellini, Baines didn't want to leave, we parted on good terms. A few choice quotes were unhelpful to put it diplomatically but I think he was already feeling the relentless media pressure. At the time I remember being completely enraged, I was ranting about how I hoped he was a disaster for United and that he'd turned his back on us without a pause for second thought. What annoyed me the most was that he had the upper hand and was trying to exploit what he felt was an advantage, which was cruel. But I say unhelpful because although they painted him in a bad light, there was no cloak-and-dagger Baltimore Orioles style 'kidnapping in the night' of Baines and Fellaini. If he was really abusing his influence over us then surely that would've been wrapped up without fuss. Maybe my judgement is clouded by the fact I was desperate to sell Fellaini, so I was hoping for all sorts of tapping up.
Regardless, no matter where on the scale you judge his actions, I'd rather we had more class. Now don't get me wrong, if they had been flying I'd be a loss less cautious; if they'd have taken Baines I'd have been giving him both barrels. But Moyes is getting pummelled every week. The lingering shots of his haggard, cheerless face watching the 3rd/4th go in are just painful. This isn't some ex-kopite or judas; 11 years of accomplished service. Moments of greatness levelled by moments of mediocrity, but he did exceptionally with what he had - his abilities and our resources. His relentless diligence kept us fighting far beyond what our budget accounted for. Far richer teams have gone
down never mind qualified for Europe multiple times. It's snide and spineless to start gleefully joining in the kicking now it's fashionable. Moyes did immeasurably more than Rooney ever did for Everton, yet people still worship that... well, swear filter would have a field day.
