Do you not think this might be a little short sighted? Just because a player deserves to be playing on form over someone else doesn't mean that they necessarily should. That might sound like a backwards thought to most but dropping a player like a Barry who is on quite a bit o money could quite possibly make him jaded the rest of the season and with someone like that you expect them to get back to their best sooner or later. None of this is to say that is how Barry or anyone on the squad would react just putting forward an alternate way of looking at team selection. We see only the playing side of these people but Martinez has much more privileged access to their personalities and how to handle those personalities and egos.
What i see is a manager with only one system of playing, putting square pegs in round holes
That system has been sussed by every other Premiership coach, that is why teams like Hull and Stoke come to Goodison and take the piss.
Once a decent european coach does his homework we'll be out of that competion too.

I for one think you are completely off base. What makes you think that after multiple seasons in this league with Martinez playing the same system that all of a sudden light bulbs went on in other managers heads? Also what components of the "system" were you referencing? His philosophy above all else is keep the ball that says nothing about the positions he has people take or the way in which we keep the ball. No offense intended but it seems like a few reactionary statements from you and jargon that you are regurgitating from other people (square pegs round holes and all).

I said no. But if we take less than 4 points from the next 12 he must go. Simple as that.

WBA on the 19th under the lights could be his pink slip match.

lol...how 6 months can change things! Premature contract extension and mural by those incompetents in charge....and now here we are...

and the even sadder things is, we have been such a basket case club for 3 decades that frankly my dear, I couldn't give a damn...

It's very strange though, isn't it? Martinez's tactical nous wasn't just hype, we saw it ourselves last season: the 4-3-3 with Lukaku out wide against Arsenal, tinkering with the 3-5-2 in preseason and against City. This year the squad is desperate for a new idea, and he hasn't tried anything. Not even the slightest tweak.

Something's holding him back, but I can't figure out what. Fear? Personnel?

Injuries?

Needs to go better now than later. He spent a lot of money. 2nd half yesterday was the worst I have seen. No clues how to attack, we know how he has reduced our defence. Next 3 games are important and we need to win 1 of them. He really could get us relegated if not this year the next one. Royle, Kendall, Pulis can do the job. I was no fan of Moyes but we never felt he can get us relegated. Martinez is like Mike Walker as far as I am concerned

Got us 5th and into Europe last season along with I believe our largest points haul in the Premier League era.

I'm inclined to give him quite a bit more time.

Admittedly, changes are in order but....it's not his fault that players like Distin, Barry, Howard, Coleman, McGeady, Baines, and others are woefully out of form right now. Absolutely nothing is coming off for this team and other teams sense this. Just gotta play through it and bag a win or two to get us back on track.

Also, admittedly, injuries certainly aren't helping the cause either.

Wouldn't mind seeing the players call a players only meeting and have it out. Get this fixed pronto.

I was thinking this myself.

The truth is his style has been "sussed" but why does it appear to have been so sudden and dramatic when as you so rightly say, he has been around the EPL fior a wee while now.

Probably because he was much more under the radar at Wigan and going there and winning wasn't the big deal for your Stokes, Palaces or Hulls as coming here and taking sommat is.

He is more in the spotlight now.

And he ain't looking good.

Martinez took over Wigan from Bruce who had them finish 11th, with GD -11 with 45 conceded. RM first season at Wigan finished 16th with 79 conceded (GD -42). Then finished 16, 15, 18. In his time, Goals Against...73, 62, 61, 79. Previous 4 seasons finished 11, 14, 17, 10, Goals Against 45, 51, 59, 52. EFC, quo vadis?
Sack the fool now....
