Eto'o and Naismith are massively to blame for our problems alongside martinez.

Both should be squad players who can offer us something to rotate with but martinez hasn't the bottle to do this and instead has ruined the team chemistry trying to fit everyone into the starting 11 at the expense of a balanced side.

And people on here wonder why we are so slow in our build up play lol it's because we have no settled side ffs. Changes week in week out.

See Chelsea as an example of how it's done, everyone knows there place and the team stays the same whenever it can. Schurrle score's a worldie he's still a squad player, martinez on the other hand would squeeze him into the side moving hazard out of position to do so.

Totally agree...can see why he was impressed by their start, but he's dismantling last years team/team set up to fit them in in a number of games.

Alright maybe not every game but he def put in some top performances v Torres when he was in his pomp, admitidly that was a few years ago now and he has been average to gash most of this season but he's not alone in that.
I think jags has been ok however far below his best. He's getting older and while still a good squad player to have for another season or two we should be looking further ahead.

I agree about Eto'o, he's a bit part player who should only be playing every now and then really and in games against weaker opposition or where we need an experienced head like a European away game. However, Naismith has worked hard enough to change the mind of every member of a whole fan base, shows how well he's done over the last 12-18 months. But he needs to find a way to get him and Barkley into the team without unbalancing the team and putting round pegs in square holes. No doubt though that tomorrow we'll see Eto'o in the number 10 role and Barkley on the left, although it'll be mainly due to injuries he needs to work out a way of changing formation.

Naismith was our best player at the start of the season, but he shouldnt play when Ross is fit.
Eto'o came on yesterday and tried to make things happen, I agree that both should be "impact players" going forward.

The only way to do that is to play Barkley further back which would work in easier games. I don't think we need to shoehorn both into every game.

Naismith has done well but he's still a very average player and we could do better.

That's the thing though mate Naismith has done well but soon as ross was back if we had a Mourinho as manager Naismith would have been given a pat on the back and put back on the bench and used as a super sub, whereas martinez is too loyal/weak to make these harsh decisions.

Harsh decisions are made by the winners see Van Gaal subbing that keeper off for Krul in the shootout in the WC. Martinez has failed massively with this and for me this whole inbalanced team selection is the main reason we are so poor. No one knows there job and theirs no link up play/partnerships formed. Like ross and Rom last season and Baines and pienaar in recent years.

Yeah he definitely has his favourites. Would be great if he made a big decision to drop one of the bigger presences in the dressing room to show people that their place isn't secure. And yeah its like watching a bunch of strangers at the moment.

Woohoo, There's a stat in this retort (not a significant one, but a stat nonetheless); love how stats haters use it anyhow (unwittingly in this case it would seem) when it suits their arguments
If that counts as a stat you really are desperate for them to be used......here's a stat for to feed your need....80% of posters on this thread, or four fifths if you'd rather, don't believe knee-jerking is a good idea irrespective of what the statisticians amongst us want to propose.
