In a nutshell mate.

The very people accusing Martinez of being inflexible have one string to their bow and keep on playing it until it's reacted to: 'stop working the ball out slowly', as if that get's to the heart of anything.

Well even if it's the case, there is a legitimate point to be made which is, should he not be judged until he gets "his" players to play the system. Stones is a natural at this, and Martinez will want a partner next to him. If we have Stones and say (for arguments sake) Van Dijk and it was going badly then that's another matter.

Having said that, I don't see much value in sacking managers mid season.

Cor blimey, ok.

Who's choice is it to persist with a system that is not working with the only personel at hand?

It's always been my point that he needs to sort this out in the next two windows. Players need to leave, players need to arrive.

Isn't that really what happens with all successful managers: that they require time to get their own team in in order to be judged?

The feller achieved the football equivalent of plaiting sawdust there last season with those gobsh**** at the heart of the defence. You quite rightly identified that Barry dropping back in between them was key to us getting away with it. Well now Barry is struggling for form and he cant save us from the woeful performances of the two muppets.

Wrong.

Last season Barry and McCarthy were given a lot more time on the ball, especially against the lower clubs, to turn and spread play. We moved forward in a bank and the opponents being moved out of space with the pace of our movement.

This year, as soon as that ball is with the CB, the oppostion midfield move right on top of our midfield knowing that the ball is going to Barry and he his swamped with him facing our goal

Happened last year as well, we must hasten to note. Southampton did it, Palace sis it to name but two. Not that hard evidence will get anywhere, there is stubborness here to match that of Martinez' continued desire to make players play in a way they can't and suffer for it.

Whose choice is it to persist with the system not working as is the current situation?

I was actually going to mention Palace, I remember applauding Pulis because he nailed us perfectly

Would love us to adopt liverpools style of punt it long to 3 fast forwards. I think lukaku and mirallas would excel at this alongside a pacy forward.

Howard

Coleman Jagielka Stones Baines

Mccarthy Barkley Besic

Mirallas Lukaku Perisic

Should Martinez be sacked? No, not yet. He has had a hiccup, just like Moyes did, in the season after he got us into 4th spot. Martinez needs the time to show that he can turn a bad situation around, just like Moyes did. If things are still dire by the end of next season, then Martinez must expect to leave. This will be good timing, because that is when Moyes' contract at Real Sociedad expires, so we can get him back on a free.

Personally wouldn't blame the Palace games on the Barry tactic. That was Martinez not respecting them and throwing an unbalanced overly attacking side out for the two games.
