No. Because you're bloody lucky to get over 60 on the motorways by me what with congestion or smart motorways, so no point.

Personally I don't go over 70-75 anyway due to the ever declining mpg the faster you go. Fuel is expensive yo!
Try one of these

Is it true that all car speedometers are set to 3-4mph faster than you’re actually travelling at? Or is that an old wives tale?
Na, think there are differences by manufacturer. Using Google maps on my phone to compare gps tracked speed to speedo speeds...

I notice all Toyotas seem to do 65ish on the motorway (ever get stuck behind the buggers?). Guessing the owners set the cruise control to 70. They're a sensible bunch, can't see them going too fast.

My old Hyundai i30 used to do 64 when cruise control was set to 70.

My VW seems to be about 68 rather than 70.

My old Kia Ceed user to do 74 when cruise control was pegged at 70.

What are the accident rates on the autobahn where there is no speed limit (unless I'm woefully out if date)?

The speed kills thing amuses me. In Swindon there's a road where the council advertise 17 accidents had happened in the last (however long) 6 were due to speeding. Speed kills.

So actually 11 accidents were from cars going too slowly??

Increase, and minimum speed limits need to be strictly enforced where possible.

The main problem isn't the speed. It's bells with no lane discipline.

"I'm going the speed limit so illl just sit here, thanks"

Between those and the ones who don't know how to merge on or get in lane to exit you'd solve the majority of motorway issues.

If I were a traffic police officer I'd break all kinds of records for tickets issued. Poor driving really boils my piss.

There should be tougher penalties on middle lane drivers, they are the ones who cause the congestion on clear motorways by effectively knocking it down to one lane.
Have you noticed the new phenomenon of how folk use 4 Lane stretches of motorway?

Often the 1st lane sits empty and the other three have a car each all doing 70, sometimes, less.

There's a stretch of the M5 southbound north of Worcester where its comedically bad for it.

It's before my time, but I heard the they reduced the general speed limit from 60mph to 50mph during the oil crisis to improve fuel efficiency. Considering the environmental, economic and political situation at the moment I'd say it's as likely they would reduce speed limits as increase them. Most likely of all is that they'll do nothing.

Speed definitely kills.. slow speed! all these idiots that drive slowly just piss people off and make them lose patience and take a risk…
People that drive faster are generally more switched on and alert vs the half asleep slow drivers just annoying everyone.

Smart Motorways would be the place to introduce this. When the traffic flow is low enough they could pop the limit up to 80 in the right hand lane.
