Should you support your national team?

Remember crying my eyes out when England got knocked out of Italia 90, later ones didn’t hurt anywhere near as much and some were just a “oh well”.

Tbh it is a bit the same with Everton, can shake the losses far easier than I did when younger.

True. An Everton loss used to kill my weekend. It’s now mostly forgotten by the time I get home.

We’ve had plenty of practice at getting over losses though.

I want England to win the World Cup because am English. Just like I want the English cricket team to win the rugby team (couldn’t care less about rugby tho) the women’s team it was a good felling when they won the euros.

That said if they don’t am not that bothered. Everton losing wrecks my whole weekend England losing couldn’t really care. I only support Everton. I wouldn’t go to an England match but I still want them to do well in major tournaments. Be great if Pickford won the World Cup also.

I'm happy when England win but not ecstatic like I am when Everton win, or as annoyed as when Everton lose. After the Euros final I got over it in about 10 minutes, whereas if it had been Everton losing a final I'd have been in tears.

Not much I like about this country at the minute and I couldnt bare to watch some of the anti immigrant, racist, violence stoking individuals in the media and politics try to revel in a win considering they would be happy to see most of the players deported to Rwanda if they weren't footballers.

However, this collection of players are a lot more likeable than many past teams and although im not a fan of Southgate, he seems a good guy too. Plus I want Rashford to win it

I rabidly dislike my country of birth for its violent thieving history and the way it has been governed by corrupt elitists dance 1066. I also dislike the loutush English loon that votes in the same sociopathic uncaring self interested tory party every time there's an election, on the basis of mixing patriotism for racism.

But I'll generally want our sports teams to win as they're not responsible for what our overlords do.

This nails it for me.

The multicultural makeup of this England side also makes it easier to like, I want them to do well, because their success would do wonders for our society, just like the French team from 1998 did for French society.

As the cookie crumbles though, they are all a bunch of losers who join a long line of bottle merchants. England that.

You're right. Behind the propaganda of the bully spirited English is the reality that we are a broken easily led people, with practically no national cultural identity (are we English, British, American?) who are bullied into fighting to the last by the sociopaths of the aristocracy who throughput history have ensured that the Brit has nothing to loose so might as well fight on. That and being shot if you refuse. The french people and even the yanks stood up to their overlords and fought back - we just deferentially doffed our caps. Broken.

Always had trouble supporting England as they've generally, during my lifetime, had at least one odious bellend in the team. How am I expected to stop hating a person to their core because they happen to be from the same country as me?
My feelings precisely. The last time I really got behind England was ‘86 when we had four players in the starting XI (and I was a kid).

Can’t bring myself to support RS, United or Chelsea players just because they’re wearing a different top.

I do have a soft spot for the Soceroos having lived here for 20 odd years though.

I'm always curious what people that think this think people around the rest of the world were doing at that time; were they singing kumbaya? Obviously when england was doing its thieving etc, there was no one to fight, because obviously if there was someone to fight in the form of armies and weapons that would imply other nations were doing exactly the same, and that obviously didn't happen according to this world view.

Also curious if they just have a blind spot for the force for good england has also been in the world.
