Silly Season January 2014

Rhodes is definitely a finisher but you need more than that to be a success in the premiership. His all round game needs to be good enough. That's why Hernandez at Utd and Darren Bent at Fulham aren't getting much game time. To play the way Martinez wants us to we need better than Rhodes.

He's the sort of player Norwich, Cardiff, Stoke etc should be looking at imo
I disagree. With an attacking line of say McGeady, Barkley and Mirallas to whip in crosses, through balls etc. Rhodes would get a lot of service, which is all he needs. Having better players around him will also make him a better player.

I wanted us to get Gary Hooper as well, same type of player, who is just scoring goals.

My dream scenario:

Out:
Jelavic
Heitinga
Gueye
Vellios (think he actually might be good, but his reluctance to go out on loan smacks of a mercenary)

In:
McGeady
Rhodes
Gauld
Souttar
Robertson

Rhodes and McGeady to go straight into the first team. The Dundee United boys to be part of the first team squad.

I'd be delighted to see us go for the 3 Dundee Utd boys and fairly happy with McGeady. I think we need an extra central midfielder and someone who offers more than Rhodes. Perhaps the Israelian centre mid who is on a free (Natkho) and the young belgian striker

Lukaku is a finsher but can also offer more by his movement, pace and strength. Hooper and Rhodes are purely someone who can finish. That's obviously a great qulaity to have as a striker but they need to offer more if we're going to compete. None of the other top 7-8 teams in the league would be looking at the likes of Rhodes and Hooper and there's a reason for that

The thing with Rhodes mate is that they'd want a lot of money for him (contract depending).

They paid £8m for him, and he's got a bit better so would arguably cost £10m+.

And he's not worth that to us.
We'll never get Lukaku on a permanent contract. While I love him as a player, it seems his head is spinning about his own ability and how good he is. He will want to be back with Chelsea for next season.

If you score a goal every 1.7 game then it does not matter if you cost £10 m.

None of them were looking at Baines, Coleman and McCarthy either.

I don't disagree mate. I like Rhodes. He was at Ipswich as a young player so known about him for years.

I'm just not sure we have 10 million pounds!

He certainly knows where the net is - could he deliver against premiership defences though?

I don't want to spend £8-£10m on Rhodes if I'm honest, especially if that's likely to be most of our budget for January.

We should sign Danny Ings from Burnley.

He is young, seems to know where the goal is and would not fetch a high price. We could use him as back up this season and next season rotate him around with the experienced Kone. If he isn't that good fair enough, we move him on after next year for a few million, but if he keeps improving the way he has been since the summer then he could be better than Rhodes and the likes for us. He is only 21 so plenty of time to learn and improve, not like Beckford who arrived thinking he knew it all.

Mate, we are trying to be serious here. Stop taking the piss with these type of gash players.
