Tim Cahill? Darren Bent? Dean Ashton?

Attacking mid, so Cahill doesn't count though he'd certainly be considered a success if we were talking mids.

Bent is probably the last one you'd consider properly successful, and I'd have put Ashton in there too if he hadn't been a permacrock. Ashton was actually brilliant.

So one and a half in the last 10 years have made the step up.

A few other players that have been suggested on here as possible targets get a mention as well:-

Marseille striker Jordan Ayew wants move to West Brom in order to secure his place in Ghana World Cup squad. (All Africa)

John Guidetti will be allowed to leave Man City on loan, with West Ham and Stoke keen to have him for the rest of the season. (Mirror)

The Fulham manager is also targeting an audacious £10m move for Ravel Morrison from West Ham. (Telegraph)

Solskjaer wants to sign Blackpool's Tom Ince, who would cost £8m. (Sun)

The Gunners will have to pay around £8m to sign Mirko Vucinic on a permanent deal if Juventus are to let the Montenegro striker.(Mirror)

Ince isn't worth £8m in a million ****ing years. If he wasn't English he'd be worth about £3m.

It's utterly scandalous. We should have £10m left over from sales at least, shouldn't we?

IMHO that would depend on whether Kenwright was telling the truth when he said that the McCarthy purchase would have gone through regardless of Fellaini staying or going. Personally I think that was a MASSIVE whopper, and therefore I believe that there is very little left from the summer.

Standard had a cut of the £27m Utd paid for Fellaini, and we got McCarthy, Barry and Lukaku in. I suspect that there's no more than £5m or £6m left over. If there was £15m available to buy McCarthy BEFORE Fellaini was sold then we should currently have about £20m in the bank to play with.... I know which version I think is more likely.

Kenwright and the board are going to struggle to keep hold of Martinez if they continue with their money disappearing act. Martinez is an ambitious guy and deserves to be backed (more so than Moyes did, in my opinion, as he actually utilises his squad). The TV money has increased massively, so much so that we should be able to afford an actual net spend. No excuse for that.

Even though we should have a minimum of £10m, I'd guess we have about £4m mate. Enough to get a body or two in, but I reckon Martinez is waiting for Jelavic and Heitinga and possibly even Baines to go as then he could go for his creme de la creme targets.

"No players are leaving and we're not going to sign anyone. The window is closed for us."

- Carlo Ancelotti

Time to wave goodbye to any dream of Morata.

Think you have forgotten the 5 million for Vic?
