Silly Season January 2014

The problem with the likes of ings and rhodes is they'll cost a fortune, its usually a lot cheaper to risk a foreign player than to pay 8-10 mil for a british player from the championship thats equally risky

They both got promoted with their respective clubs though, I'm talking players who are tearing it up in the champ making the jump. It doesn't happen often at all. At a push you could actually say Beckford is close, he had a good season.

Oh I see, You don't get many that make that step up, Clubs don't like chancing a Championship striker when they can get a fancy named African or South American who scored loads in an Argentinian League, like Straq.

Beckford hit double figures which is no mean feat so I'd'd class him as a success albeit for 1 season.

Cahill was not really bought as a striker but he scored a lot of goals arriving late in the box.

Ok lets look at the top strikers in the premiership and where they come from

Boney, (foreign)
Sturridge (English, chelsea )
Michu (Spanish, foreign)
Giroud (French, Foreign)
Lukaku (Belgium, Foreign)
Benteke (Belgium, Foreign)
Negredo (Spanish, Foreign)
Suarez (Foreign, S.American)
RVP (Forigen)
Rooney English, Everton

We need our own striker star

Boney.. Do you mean Wilfried Bony? Top striker?

Did Benteke have his one and only good season? I wouldn't class him a top striker until he repeats the feats of last year again. He's looking like another Jelavic and Cisse, they have been found out and cannot adapt.

The thing with Danny Ings is that, yes he's scoring a lot for Burnley at the moment, but this is his first season as a starter ever.

Would be a huge risk to pay about £8m based on half a season.

Hadn't he had injuries and still stuffering

Not sure mate, I don't follow Villa that close but he doesn't look the same player this season for whatever reason. Clubs always jump onto one season wonders, i would prefer somebody more established to splash the cash on but obviously no amount of money can guarantee a goal return.

...remember us getting a bloke called Joe Harper for decent money from Scotland, what a let down he was. Buyer beware, need to ensure we don't pay over the odds for potential - unproven in a top league. Its all about risk management and some of the young foreign lads we're linked with look worth a gamble at under £5m.

Look at Soldado who cost 30 million, he had a good record behind him and with that amount of money, you believe you are buying a scroing machine, City got Negredo who seems to be settling in but is this due to better players around him. Lukaku seems to be the real deal and i would love us to sign him up or get rooney back home.

Jordan Rhodes is a goalscorer pure and simple. No pace to speak of but would probably fit into our team with little difficulty. Said for a while that he is good enough for the Prem. Whether or not he would improve the team remains to be seen especially if we do harbour ambitions to be a genuine top4 team.

Would love to sign Lukaku but it'll never happen, It's a shame that championship clubs put such high values on to players stopping a lot of them getting a chance. Vaughny would score goals at this level if he could stay fit long enough.

But would he be worth the gamble? they would want at least 10 mil for him and for that money surely theres a few strikers on the continent that are better
