....I just think the price tag on lower league scorers is too high.

I agree, championship players in any position are high, the media and fans and ex-pro's can all go on about foreigners but the reality is British players are extortionate. Seamus Coleman being a mahoosive exception

But would he be worth the gamble? they would want at least 10 mil for him and for that money surely theres a few strikers on the continent that are better

True, wouldnt touch Rhodes for anything over 5m and that for a club like this represents a massive gamble.

A few other players that have been suggested on here as possible targets get a mention as well:-

Marseille striker Jordan Ayew wants move to West Brom in order to secure his place in Ghana World Cup squad. (All Africa)

John Guidetti will be allowed to leave Man City on loan, with West Ham and Stoke keen to have him for the rest of the season. (Mirror)

The Fulham manager is also targeting an audacious £10m move for Ravel Morrison from West Ham. (Telegraph)

Solskjaer wants to sign Blackpool's Tom Ince, who would cost £8m. (Sun)

The Gunners will have to pay around £8m to sign Mirko Vucinic on a permanent deal if Juventus are to let the Montenegro striker.(Mirror)

Would rule him out for us if just a loan then. We have the allotted two loan players from within the PL.

The ITK lads on this site believe we have to sell/get players off the books to get players in during this window.

What IS going on at this club? How can they manage to spirit the cash away AGAIN without accounting?

Personally would like us to sign a lad called Carlos Pena from leon, got a friend who lives in american but watches a lot of mexican football, says he's the next big thing. Showed me a few clips of him and he does seem very good, shouldn't cost that much either.

It's utterly scandalous. We should have £10m left over from sales at least, shouldn't we?

Kenwright and the board are going to struggle to keep hold of Martinez if they continue with their money disappearing act. Martinez is an ambitious guy and deserves to be backed (more so than Moyes did, in my opinion, as he actually utilises his squad). The TV money has increased massively, so much so that we should be able to afford an actual net spend. No excuse for that.

Our wage bill is pretty high and to be fair, we would need to get Johnny and Jelavic off the wage bill before bringing more in, its just sensible.

Jordan Rhodes is a goalscorer pure and simple. No pace to speak of but would probably fit into our team with little difficulty. Said for a while that he is good enough for the Prem. Whether or not he would improve the team remains to be seen especially if we do harbour ambitions to be a genuine top4 team.

Not good enough IMO. As you say, he has no pace whatsoever and in this league you need it plain and simple unless you have something magical ie Berbatov.

If I had to gamble on a championship striker I'd go for James Vaughan if he's proven his fitness at Huddersfield? Not seen much of Huddersfield apart from highlights on the football league show and seemingly every time I watch me he scores a beauty.

Saying all this I'd prefer we didn't gamble as we should have enough money stashed for someone in the 8-12 mill category, ie Demba Ba, Berbatov (including wages), Hernandez (should utd purchase a forward).

Think we need to remember that we should be looking at the better strikers what with the increased revenues and performance of the team this year. I'd like to think the days of punting on a Tim Cahill are long gone.

Monaco just bought him this window so I doubt we could get an option to sign for it.

My bad, should of checked my fachts with Wiki:-

"On 4 January 2014, Traoré signed a 4.5-year contract with Monaco. He said That it was a stepping stone to realise his real dream and play for Big Sam at west ham his boyhood Club.[11][12]"
