Silly Season January 2014

Shaking here at Everton, a team with so little money, spending 8m on Kone and Robles, a second choice goalkeeper.

Awful business.

By my reckoning we 'had' the Leroy Fer money from January, but let's round that down to 5m to be fair to Bill.

Then we made around 33m from Fellaini and Anichebe sales. Those two gone saves over 5m a year on wages.

We bought McCarthy for around 13m, Kone for 6m (no doubt less) and Robles for 2m. That's 21m TOPS on new players, all three of which take up probably the same as Fellaini and Anichebe's wages of 5m a year. There is now around a 15m discrepancy if you believe that the manager gets to spend the money generated from sales, as apparently we're in a strong financial position ().

But let's factor in Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu too. Probably paying virtually nothing for Gerard, and let's say 5m loan fees for the other two, plus let's say 5m a year in wages for the three.

That leaves around 5/6m left, with Bill again putting absolutely no money of his own into the club.

Jelavic goes, 3/4m, Heitinga will leave for free, plus 2.5m saved on wages on the two until the end of the season.

= a total of 11m to spend on a striker (which includes wages). That'd get us a good 8m striker.

personally think the robles deal was great business. no coincidence that howard is in the best form of his career.

Think the window has made a massive turn for us. Nikica suddenly considers staying, no McGeady rumours, and a cool allround-feeling. Heitinga will leave, but I'm not expecting any big transfers anymore. Stones and Alcaraz has proven themselves as worthy, so I am not so keen on signing a defender.

Maybe our striker-signing of the window is Nikica finding his goal-scoring form back? I believe so.

But hell, only 5 days into the window. Too early to make conclusions, who knows what's gonna happen.

I cant be bothered doing all the math, but it said on motd or somewhere like that we had a 12mill profit from our last transfer window.

"Exciting news for Newcastle fans" to be revealed at 7:30 on Sky. Heitinga maybe...?

Saw Heitinga at Manchester airport with his family this morning, a flight to Amsterdam matched up with the time he was at the airport so imagine he was heading back there. Not sure if that indicates whether a transfer is more or less likely, suppose he might have just been given a few days off by Martinez.

Tend to agree with you, but in that case we should be snapping up young prospects.

What a depressing thought. If we have any ambitions to push on we need failures like him out and genuine first teamers lin.
