Silly Season January 2014

Only just come across this thread... Baines or Barkley on a long term contract would be worthy of starting a thread like this, but I've come up with this instead though because it just feels different. Using my detective powers, just by breaking down his 2nd post "just the club have done everything they can to keep someone at the club":

To keep someone at the club, I interpret that as someone able to leave/contract is nearly over as I don't think there are any bids in for a key player or someone demanding they want out
By everything they can, I see that as this player has been earmarked as a vital cog going forward

With rumours of Chelsea being in for strikers and still chasing Rooney, I might be reading into it too much but in my dream about this - Lukaku on a permanent deal. But my own preference of whatever he's referring to:

1- Lukaku signed on a permanent deal
2 - Barkley signs long term contract
3- Delofeu signs a permanent deal
4 - Baines signs a new long term contract to basically end his top-level career at EFC

But oh well, time will tell!

I might get **** on for saying this but...I can see why people would be disappointed if the news is about a new contract for Baines. I love the man (evidently) but is that the sort of news we are genuinely, deep down inside hoping for right now? Judging from the general posts around here at the moment, what the majority are hoping for is new players so we can push on and not fall away into 6th/7th place obscurity.

I don't think it will be Lukaku. If jelavic goes, Martinez has already said that he wants a replacement. Lukaku is already here, so we would still need another striker as back up given that Kone is out. It is doubtful that we will have enough money to make Lukaku permanent AND get another stiker in as back up.

Oh yeah. I've seen him play a couple of times actually, just couldn't tell from the picture. He bangs them in for a midfielder.

If it's Baines signing a long-term contract I don't see what all the secrecy is about. After all, he's our player already, he's on contract already and it's hardly going to send shockwaves around the football world as he can still be bought in next window.
Whereas if it were Lukaku......we'd hardly want to broadcast it or other clubs would come sniffing round

Just my take on it....or what I'd like it to be

I think it's obvious what it's going to be.. Barkley will sign a new deal committing his future with Everton. Honestly, we should be very pleased with this. The lad is absolutely brilliant and it would be unthinkable to lose him. We have produced the two finest English footballers of the 21st century in Rooney and Barkley. We already lost one of them.. it would be unfathomable to lose the other.

I'm just going off the wording, it's either a permanent signing of someone that's already with us (Barry, Delofeu or Lukaku) or Baines as he's been linked away heavily while Barkley hasn't. If, he's telling the truth :)
