Silly Season January 2014

Praying we don't sign Jones.

Can't even get in the Stoke side FFS. My Potter mate says he's good one game out of 10 but the rest of the time he's sulky and lazy.

So your basically saying you think Kitbag are doing a great job i take it from your sarcastic comment? lol

Don't try & put words in my mouth.

Kitbag look after most of the top sides in the division lad, as well as the likes of Barca.

They pay us for the rights to sell our shirts, if they're not on sale in a specific location, that's because they've made the decision that it doesn't make economic sense to them due to the high cost of retail rack space.

We all want a quality replacement for Jelavic, but we need to realise that that isn't going to be easy in January.

Firstly very few want to sell their best players mid-season.

Batshuayi a case in point.

Standard won't let him go until the summer because they want him to stay and help them win the title this year.

Prices are also inflated in January and there seem to be little value for money.

Twente wanted 8 million for Fer in January, then sold him in the summer to Norwich for 4.

But most of all, we'll have the same problem as we've just had with Jelavic.

Whoever comes in, like it or not they'll more than likely play second fiddle to Lukaku for the remainder of the season.

Unless you can find a top quality striker from a country not involved in the World Cup, then it's a hard sell convincing someone to join and not guarantee them plenty of game time which is what they'll want leading up to the World Cup.

Having said all that, Jones still isn't the answer even as cover!

Kenwyne Jones would be a fantastic purchase

He would be cheap on low wages and would lead the line like a beast for us, He has it all, Pace, power, he can head the ball and bang them in from anywhere

I think Martinez should be praised for trying to sign a established Prem league player instead of blowing it on some flash in the pan Spanish beaut like Aspas

It is largely a matter of timing.

If we signed Bathsuayi on a permanent deal and then signed Jones as cover for Kone I think most people would be less unhappy.
(even though I would prefer if we could get Shane Long who is also near the end of his contract).

If the manager wants Kenwynne Jones, I will trust his judgement , as it possibly means that he will wait until the summer to sign the striker that he really wants or at least may not be able to sign him until Jan 31st at 11.59p.m.

Standard dont have any say in it mate, their holding out for his buy out anyways so its 7m now and guess what it will be 7m in the summer too, unless they manage to resign him to a higher buyout which will mean his price rises considerably

Mate prices aren't really inflated in January, and i will take your leroy fer and raise it with a Negredo - Negredo was available in Jan for a lot less than City paid in the summer, fers value plummeted only as i previously mentioned due to entering the final year of his contract, otherwise he'd have cost at least 8m in the summer too.

Whoever comes in as a back up to Lukaku will have one big difference to Jelavic mate, Jelavic knew he wasn't wanted by the manager, he also knew that if not for Kone's injury he would likely have not got on the pitch at all, and he also knew the manager was looking at bringing someone in ahead of him in Jan meaning he'd get little to know time playing, that and the fact he was that unfavoured here now that he was only getting brought on for 10 here and their anyways, an incoming striker would be a integral part of the squad not a afterthough/desperation sub like Jela was

Please say that this post is sarcasm mate, or have you not seen Kenwyn Jones play the last 7-8 years?

Doesn't make it right though does it? Surely having a presence in shops in Ireland and other territories would be good to raise Everton's profile?! I think bluesteven raises a valid point.

Btw, called people "lad" is patronising as fukc. Is there any need?

Let's buy a striker while we have our best chance in years of fourth who doesn't score goals.
I would be gutted if Martinez thought this was the way to go, Jones wouldn't have been good enough for Wigan never mind a top four chasing team.
