Silly Season January 2014

He been linked for a few days now and now he on strike because he wants to join us now. If this was not true wouldn't efc have told us by now. I'm in panic mode

I can understand the panic.

But until something happens I wouldn't be doing it myself.

Take it easy!

Trust in our rather boss manager to do the right thing.

This season has been the most exciting for decades. We're paying some of the most exhilarating football in England, winning games and have a lot of young players coming through. We're all good right now. If you're miserable now you must have been a mess for the last quarter century.

I think this notion is being vastly exaggerated.

We are only a couple of points better off than last year, we haven't achieved anything yet. And we saw what will happen last year if we do not invest in January, we will fall behind and achieve nothing once again.

Agreed

Jones could come here and be like a new player, and slot them away for fun

Who knows what a change of scenery would do for him?

Unlikely I imagine, but you never know

That kind of argument is exactly why utter turd players are bought and given 'second-third-fourth' chances mate, and sorry Kenwyn Jones is was and always will be utter **** and not worthy to wear our kit

To think a lot of us are baffled as to the money paid by west brom and hull for chebes and jela, and some actually think Jones or Long may be worth bringing in ^^

Sound. Won't bother watching the rest of the season then. Thanks for the heads up.

Whoever is signed by RM gets my support and will keep it until they prove they don't deserve it.

I think Kenwynne Jones is a talented player who has never fully delivered on that talent.

If however we also sign a younger striker like Bathsuayi and Jones is brought in to give cover and premiership experience then I am satisfied that we have strengthened.
This will give the younger striker time to settle into the club without unrealistic demands being made of him.

Sometimes though mate, a player gets a second or third chance and makes it count

John Hartson at Celtic for example

Big Dunc when he came back here

Thing is mate both those players second chances where more requirted for disciplinary reasons involving violent conduct more than anything

Hartsons carreer showed he always banged in the goals, long before his time at celtic, his scoring rate was actually decent, in fact had a few really good years most noticably with west ham

Ferguson was only like 22-23 when he got ghis second chance with us mate and lets face it wasnt down to playing crap it was down to the trouble he was getting in up scotland

Neither is an example of a 30 year old, lazy bag of ****e with no footballing skill or ability and whose been hated on by his own fans at every club hes been at - that alone tells me a lot

Liverpool signed Sturridge and countinho last jan and it made a difference. We need to do similar to seriously try and claim that 4th spot.

Let's get this straight and be realistic here Kenwyn Jones will NOT have that sort of affect or impact!! It would be a shocking signing it really would. I only hope it's some BS or a desperate last measure if everything else goes tits up, at which which point he's be coming in till the summer only and be behind Mirallass and Naismith in the pecking order.

This is not meant to sound racist, but that phrase is nearly always used for big black fellas with pace, same as 'is an athlete', and i find it amusing, just label a cart hors a cart horse and be done with it, potential means nothing especially when the blokes 30 soon

Never compare big dunc or John Hartson to 'Kenwyne Jones'. More talent in their little toes than that lazy nob will ever have in his body.

He's never 'banged them in' for any prem club. He wouldn't do it in here.

Stop trying to convince yourself he'd be 'okay' he wouldn't. Strac would offer more.

This isn't a 'fume' post or anything of the sort. I know he won't sign, but it's annoying to see people that desperate for a transfer that they're convincing themselves Kenwyne Jones wouldn't be too bad.

He's at stoke for a reason. He's not starting at stoke for a reason.

I half agree.

Everton are 5 points better off than they were at the same stage of last season.

Our current tally of 41 points is the best we have ever achieved after 21 games in The Premier League era (we had 40 in the year we finished 4th).

I think it's a bit unfair to underplay how good we've been, but I do agree with your point about the need to invest. I think that on 2nd September, we had a squad with enough depth to challenge this season. Injuries since then have stretched us - Mcgeady makes a lot of sense as the injury to Deulofeu left us without cover in wide areas and we now lack cover in central midfield and in attack. If we are able to sort out players in those two positions this month (centre mid really only needs to be a temporary solution), I think we'll be ok. We may not get top 4 because there may end up simply being 4 or more better sides than us, but two more players this month is a must to ensure we have the right squad depth to achieve what we want to.
