Journeyman player far past his best. Peter Taylor suggested Brian Clough buy him and use him as a sweeper. They did so and Derby went on an amazing run of form

I'm not saying Jones is as good as the aforementioned players but what I am saying is that you can never predict how a player will do under new surroundings and with a new manager regardless of their talent and previous performances

That being said, I'd still want Long over Jones

To be fair we should avoid long and jones they are not good enough.
If we are to compete for a possible top 4 we need better than those two.

I do not understand why Long keeps getting suggested. He is a nothing player. Would add very little to us. Isn't a great finisher. One very good Championship season is all he had and people keep rating him. His link up play is woeful and his finishing is poor.

Jones hasn't been first choice at the mighty Sunderland or stoke over the last 5yrs or whatever. He has absolutely No right whatsoever to even be linked with a move here!

It's gota be a wind up/cover story/transfer ploy/agent pimping or some other reasonable explenation surely. Talk about putting a downer on things...surely bobby is not that silly!

Long's a talented player, but he's painfully inconsistent & his goal return at the top level is very average.

If the feller who's got us playing football again and brought in some decent players decides he's right, how can it be the wrong move? I'm sure he'd be earmarked for a very particular job off the bench and no more than that anyway.

This is probably more a case of Jones camp trying to use the press to get a move rather than the press trying to belittle Everton
