Exactly, he will be a short term measure. Remember this cracker by him past us, some of this please

I think everyone could maybe understand the "short term measure" point if it were not for the point that it shouldn't be nessesary with ample funds to purchase someone who could actually help with a top 4 push! Also the fact that jelavic has been alowed to move on for his benifit, but taking jones as his replacement would be to the detrement of our own ambitions. RM job is what's best for Everton.

I doubt Jones will sign for us, but I dont understand the panic over it. If the feller who's got us playing football again and brought in some decent players decides he's right, how can it be the wrong move? I'm sure he'd be earmarked for a very particular job off the bench and no more than that anyway.

This. Although I would really prefer a nice exciting foreigner who's gonna break our transfer record and tear defences apart

Just something I thought I'd mention re Kenwyne Jones:

Remember when we signed Marcus Bent in 04/05? Even at half a mil people were questioning the logic in that signing, especially as we had just sold Wayne for £25m+ to Utd. He was a player who fell out of favour at clubs pretty quickly and was seen as a bit journeyman, even back then. Regardless, he was our first choice striker in that season and we all know where we ended up finishing in the league, thanks in part to a number of his goals.

I'm not saying Jones = Bent here (they aren't exactly the same player or personality for that matter) but I think it's an interesting comparison either way. Although I have reservations over Martinez' track record with signings I'll trust his judgement and if he feels Jones would make good backup on the cheap then so be it.

I agree with the comparison, I thought about it the other day. But as a team and as a club, that was the old Everton and this is the new. Signing Kenwyne Jones is the exact opposite of the statement of intent that we need to right now.

He just does not fit the profile at all, too old, not good enough (never was), hasn't got a good record anywhere really and does not at all seem like a Martinez man

Think about bent was he was very much a moyes style cf, he ran his arse off and the one thing he wasnt is lazy, KJ wouldnt have fitted moyes and certainly doesnt fit martinez's everton like

Kenwyne Jones would be a disastrous signing. He is absolutely awful. He's a signing you'd expect a relegation threatened club to make out of desperation. He isn't a step up on Jelavic; he's not even a squad signing for depth as I rate Vellios higher.

Kone was bad, but if we are seriously in for Jones I'm going to seriously question Martinez's eye for a striker.

This, this and more this.

I agree with the sentiment sure but Bent was a terrible player! I liked the guy, he worked hard for the team and ran himself into the ground. Anybody who wears the shirt and does that earns my respect. But as a striker he was awful, considering we were in for Dickov and Bellemy at that time, Bent was the worse of the three in my mind.

The hindsight is now i would have always picked Bent over them for his atitude, imagine bellamy trying to hit Duncan with a golf club?

Point is, If bent and Jones are comparable, then there is your answer to if we should him.

Kone was alrightish at Wigan wasn't he?

Can't really blame him for thinking he was alright

Completely agree. It's obvious the type of striker RM wants, but while Jones has a decent amount of PL experience, he's certainly past it.

We should certainly go abroad for a striker, we'll get one cheaper and better than KJ.
