Silly Season January 2014

You can't really buy players just because of one bad result, our defence was very poor ageist probably the second best attacking team in the league. We could have done with a midfielder, but we didn't get one but if need be someone will have to step up to the task.

That's not what I'm saying - that's very much secondary. I AM saying that having only two senior holding midfielders in a system that uses two holding midfielders to work, and having no fit striker going into a month of absolutely crucial football is absolutely mental.

Were four points off fourth place and playing some decent attacking togger.

In this window we got rid of Jelavic for actual money and Heitinga. Neither of whom have contributed to the team's performance this year.

We added McGeady for not a lot of money and loaned the massive African with the huge lash up front.

As has been acknowledged we tried to sign some cover in midfield but as also acknowledged it just didn't happen. The reason why its left to late in the month is because the whole system is one huge bellfest and clubs don't want to deal until the last moment. That's just how it is.

The whole transfer window has been turned into a huge whopper production for Sky with loads of jarg rumours - tittish ITKs (as I've been doing) and an unrealistic fan expectation for someone new and shiny to get over excited about and play with on FIFA before they eventually turn to plop.

Its been referenced before that Martinez does have some money and has also been established that he's waiting until the summer to spend it. I would hazard a guess on Barry's contract and Lukaku should there be movement on that. So it was a decision not to spend that budget right now unless the right player came up.

We are in a position as a football club where our owners don't invest money into the club which hinders us in trying to progress, but there's a whole other thread for that.

Like you I'm focused on having a boss Everton to make me feel all giddy inside so I would love nothing more to sign some aceness like the previous transfer deadline day but as explained above it has happened this time. Which is cool, I shouldn't have a sense of entitlement for it anyway.

Now the this whole tedious month is over we can get back to enjoying the togger, free from this whole circus of a sideshow.

Deulofeu is to return soon, Coleman too. Lukaku is out for a matter of weeks. Distin will be back before that and Gibson before the end of the season.

Not even mentioning that Leighton Baines has signed a new contract and commited himself to the club for the foreseeable future.

So don't be feeling glum you, yes YOU. Were still ace and hopefully will prove it in the remainder of the season.

The derby was a horror but these are still good times to be a blue.

Now pipe down and get this whole thread closed ffs.

Well done well said !! the transfer window is an artificial monster bigged up by murdoch's minions at sky to be something that it really isn't - can we get back to actually supporting the Blues and enjoying a new approach by Roberto ? Unless all you moaners about kenwrong have a plan which myself and other ordinary match going fans can support to remove him or the board then stfu!! and no I am not a clap clap clap fan - tbh I find that insult a slur on fellow blues

Quality window that.

Jelavic wasn't scoring (QPR in the cup doesn't count)
Heitinga has been robbing a living off us for years now, never got a game and when he did he might as well of not been on the pitch
McGeady looks like a great lively and versatile winger
Traore sounds like a decent threat with pace and surprising power (gets himself in front of the opponent and holds them off)
Stanek is highly regarded as "one for the future" in his homeland, so good prospect who can get some time for the youth team

Yes we all wish we had spent umteen millions on some previously unheard of superstar but it's nowhere near as easy as it is for some random muppet on a forum to say "get him... yeah him, looks boss on Youtube him lid - SIGN HIM UP BOBBY"

Yes we are thin in some areas but we also have a lot of injuries - and you can't just sign players to cover injuries. I like to think we wanted to loan some cover but just because we might have wanted to do a deal, it doesn't meant the deal was doable.

Seriously do believe that the money will be there in the summer but we will also be using some of it to pay off some of our debt. I hope we are paying off some of our debt off anyway... The best way to use this new influx of cash is not just spunk it all on new players and raise the wage budget. As we have such a low % of cashflow we should use any opportunity we get to lower the amount of money we owe out - this is the only way for us to be able to have more cash each window in the future.

I still have faith, I don't clap Bill, I don't think we're doomed and I do still think we can push of Champions League

EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO MY OPINION!!

HAHA - the joy of a forum

Night lads & lasses :) xxxx

Nobody has even come close to suggesting any such thing.

I think you're better than telling Evertonians to get a grip simply for having an opinion which isn't positive.

If you read the last few pages back mate i think you'll find most people would have been okay with a centre midfielder as cover and perhaps a striker. Lionel Messi while good isn't quite in our price range.

People are talking about knee jerking etc., where is it ? In this thread it's mainly disappointment that we've not even signed cover for one or two of the two holes in our team, up front and the centre of midfield.

I sort of meant generally - people seem to forget that we've signed two actual players in this window, and because it was deadline day today, with no action, some are very quick to declare it a failure. Perhaps not in this thread, but you know what I mean.

I would like to say that surely its a good thing that we've now got to the point where we can see replacing Jelavic and Heitinga (two players who have stunk Goodison out for a while) with what looks like two new decent players, albeit one on loan, with a number of beautiful footballers soon to come back from injury in one massive bundle, as a massive failure.

I would like to say that but im pretty sure that we're expected to be negative rather than just take it on the chin and get on with supporting Everton for the remainder of the season, so i'll go with that instead.

We looked at the medium/long term under Moyes and won zero trophies in ten years.

Lets look at the short term for once. Who knows, we might actually get in the Champions League or win a cup.

There clearly wasn't anyone without our budget who was the right player who wanted to come to us so it would have been amounting to a panic buy mate. No guarantee they would have pushed us on to break the top four and could have disadvantaged us in purchasing players in the summer.

Who knows? You could be right and we will rue it but the manager obviously has a strategic plan and is actioning it.

He's done alright so far like.

We're 6th, mate. And haven't won a trophy in nearly 20 years.

My expectations haven't been raised by constant success here.
