Silly Season January 2014

Lids trying to calm everything down, well we just got hammered by liverpool, we have players dropping all over the shop and the next 2 matches will determine if we have a chance of silverware this season and can stay on the tails of 4th place.

Massive 2 weeks and we have rolled the dice tonight.

People coming out with mad things here... Two things:

1 - We have to be now rank outsiders for a Europa League finish in the league after this window. Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Man Utd are hot favourites for the top six. We needed to compete with Tottenham; United will definitely overhaul that two point gap, so we're in a straight fight for 6th unless we do amazingly well.

2 - People saying "at least we'll sign Lukaku now"... You're basing this on sheer optimism rather than reality. The only chance we had was if we had European football in my view. The only signs we've had are that Lukaku will be returning to Chelsea at the seasons end. Even if he did come available at a cut price of say £15m, a continental side who are in Europe would snap him up and they'd be an infinitely better lure for him.

This is why I'm saying the chance was now. Not wanting to put a downer on things but let's just be brutally honest - we're in an incredible position NOW to grab European football either through the league or the cup and what we needed to do was make the squad deep enough to give us the best possible chance via both routes. We could spend the "warchest" in the summer and I'd be amazed if we were in the position we are now in 2015.
To be honest we were always rank outsiders to finish in the top 6,you tell me what players we could have bought for say £20million that would give us Europe for sure.

135 page thread in a single day. an you imagine how many pages this place would create if we had City's wonga buying all kinds of class players instead of supporting a club owned by a plant pot with a piggy bank?

Why is it that we are the only club that operates the way we do? Sometimes being an everton fan really is hard work.... I am fed up with the same old s##t of watching us get into a good position only to fall short through injuries, bad luck or no money/ lack of ambition .. Basically this season is a write off now unless we get 12 points from our next 4 games.

Also theres the Lukaku talk hasn't been great lately still a very good player, but our form went down hill when Deulofeu got injured he is class IMO,he made mistakes but every time he's on the ball he has the opposing team scared.I would love him to sign for us but another season loan is the best I think we can hope for.

Rank outsiders to finish 6th, you're havin a laugh.

We needed to hold off Spurs with Worsel Gummidge now in charge. Hardly an impossible task with a 6 point lead before the wheels started falling off us through injuries.

I know the window has shut but are we signing someone or not?

Couldnt keep up with the thread, last time I checked there were like 80 pages less.

I would have tried for lescott 3m ish ( lb and cb covered) Scott Parker ( 2.5m ish maybe 3m cheap dm) holtby ( 7m ish competition for Barkley) and striker .... Possibly michy 7m . I admit I hav t seen him play but I don't know which striker I would have liked so I used him as an example...

Again, not saying we needed to spend £20m - another loan would have done and/or a £6m ish decent player perhaps, which the scouting network should have access to in abundance.

We didn't need a world beating first teamer, we needed depth. We can't afford even one game where Osman plays as a holding midfielder, or run the risk of a Mirallas injury next time out leaving us utterly goosed all February.

We have four games in the next 16 days - to stay in contention we need seven points from nine and the FA Cup game is a must win. We're one injury away in midfield and attack from being utterly, utterly screwed for those games.

Well all we can do now is pray we don't get an injury, cause we ain't getting anyone in now,but with the team that finished against Liverpool we should beat most of the teams 8 and lower.
