We have only won the FA cup 5 times in our history yet some people are so casual about it. Winning it would be absolutely monumental for us. Each cup winning Everton side is special in its own way, why would you not want to add to that history, to see Barkley or Davies' name alongside Young, Dean, Trebilcock, Sharp, Rideout? It would be huge for this group of players and for our reemergence as footballing power.

The degradation of the FA cup is the absolute worst thing about modern football, seeing it reduced to training exercises for some teams is sacrilegious. My favourite competition bar none. To think that teams throw this competition away in the pursuit of points to finish mid table is utterly repulsive.

Today was the FA Cup quarter-final draw, look at the teams left, from the top 6 sides only one of them is out, Liverpool haha point being if anyone thinks the FA cup isnt very important to big clubs they are just falling for the nonsense the media pedal, the same media who are more interested in the national side who moan about having to play too many games...etc

The cup isnt a major thing for clubs who are in danger of relegation but for everyone else it is, one of the only realistic chances to win something.

I remember us winning the FA Cup in 95. It was incredible, more so given the state of the club at the time. And I have to say it left more of an impression than qualifying for the CL. As much as I enjoyed watching Moyes sipping champagne in his pink cardie it was nowhere near the buzz of seeing Everton players walking round the Wembley pitch holding up the FA Cup.

Really, which of these pictures excites you more.....

really.webp

It is a real shame the FA cup has been degraded in value but it is a fact that it has.

I can remember when it was very close as an achievement to winning the league title. Giant killing wins by the likes of Sunderland and Southampton were extraordinary events (equivalent to Leicester winning the premiership last year say).

Now who cares that Wigan managed to win it.

Now there is very little difference between the FA Cup and whatever the League Cup (what used to be nicknamed the mickey mouse cup) is called now.

Imagine winning the FA Cup 5 years in a row while (say) finishing mid table every season.

Compare that with (say) reaching Champions league group stages 5 seasons in a row.

Which one would get us seen on a worldwide stage as the biggest club. Which one would attract the best players to us?

It's a close run thing I agree but Champions league shades it for me...
