It is a real shame the FA cup has been degraded in value but it is a fact that it has.

I can remember when it was very close as an achievement to winning the league title. Giant killing wins by the likes of Sunderland and Southampton were extraordinary events (equivalent to Leicester winning the premiership last year say).

Now who cares that Wigan managed to win it.

Now there is very little difference between the FA Cup and whatever the League Cup (what used to be nicknamed the mickey mouse cup) is called now.

Imagine winning the FA Cup 5 years in a row while (say) finishing mid table every season.

Compare that with (say) reaching Champions league group stages 5 seasons in a row.

Which one would get us seen on a worldwide stage as the biggest club. Which one would attract the best players to us?

It's a close run thing I agree but Champions league shades it for me...

Depends were you are coming from - who now cares about Leicester's title win last year ? Well Leicester fans will care - it can never be taken from them even if they get relegated. I agree in some ways that winning FA Cup year in year out will not give us big bucks but trophy wins do help keep/build fanbases.

I also agree that if we had consistent CL qualification that got us into Group stages each year you can then build and keep a squad that in theory would mean you have a better chance of winning other domestic cups and possibly the PL title.

Maybe time has taken its toll on me but even if we got a couple of years in the CL then still what is the point unless you either win it or get to at least a S/F to create lasting memories. If you are not doing that then give me an FA Cup or League Cup win.

Just have a look at Arsenal fans to see that getting to the champions league QF every year isn't enough. So you get more money, maybe get a higher class of player but if you don't win anything then you turnover your better players and you still end up as also-rans.

I can honestly remember how disappointed I was when I first saw us lift the league trophy at Goodison. It all seemed so low budget? Compared the first time I saw us lift eh cup at Wembley, the epic walk up what seemed a million steps, to finally hoist that beautiful trophy from atop the stands, it seemed godlike somehow? It certainly burned itself into my memory far more than the cup victory? Even the venue, the travel down to London, walking around the stadium mixing with the opposite fans, lots of banter and good humour.

i genuinely feel for anyone who never got to experience the original Wembley. Even a defeat there seemed to mean far more. When we gave the rs the league that hurt, my god did it hurt, but giving them the double at Wembley almost saw me off! Similarly, the joy of winning the CWC and the league was horribly tainted by our inability to add the FA cup.

So FA cup it is guys, it has been far too long and there are far too many top Evertonians who have never experienced those highs or lows, bring it on!

But they've won the cup twice recently and still they're not happy.

The football governing bodies/tv companies/media have sadly created an environment now were unless you're winning everything every season you're somehow failing. They despise competition without realising that competition is the goose that laid the golden egg which is what brings in so many fans. They want a league full of dross for United and Liverpool's stars to hammer every week before a huge showdown between the two for the title. To this end even doing something as extraordinary as winning the cup in consecutive seasons is seen as not enough. Teams who have never won a European cup in their history are suddenly being measured against an expectation to compete for it every season.

I'd love to win the FA Cup as much as anyone, it's been way too long since our last trophy.

However, modern day success requires CL. If we picked up 4th place, we'd have a huge boost in income, attract better players and have a good opportunity to repeat it in the following years.

I'd love us to have a huge away day to the likes of Barca/Real/Bayern, where we'd be equals rather than setting up a pre-season friendly against them.

Success in the league and European cup runs are what gets clubs back on the map - just look at Spurs.

Does anyone seem to care that they haven't won a cup since 2008? They have a great chance of winning the FA Cup this season and will do for the foreseeable future because of their success in the league.

We could win a cup and that would be great, but where does it get us long term? Personally I don't think top foreign players care at all about the domestic cups, they want Europe.

I'd rather make us a big club again in the league, then the cup wins will follow.

I went for 4th.

Straight into the CL group stages, and a good shot at qualifying for the knockout rounds. Huge income, huge exposure and huge potential to move onto the next level and stay there. With a good summer transfer window we can hopefully join the 'big 6' next season, meaning it could get very interesting in years to come with no real guarantee of CL football for any of those teams.

Top 4. Champions League is the elite competition. You want to be the best, you have to beat the best.

The FA, granted, is silverware. But it is diminishing. There's a reason for low attendances. There's a reason everyone grumbles when League weekends give way to cup weekends. There's a reason for weakened sides. There's a reason why, to the elite clubs, the FA Cup alone isn't deemed successful.

You win a couple of easy ties and you're in the final without barely being tested. This seems to happen to Arsenal a lot.

Gaining Top 4 will increase your chances for all trophies. You prioritise the better competitions. The elite clubs have squads big enough to cope for numerous competitions.

The new investment, the change in staff, management, players. They weren't brought in to win the FA Cup and say the jobs done. There isn't a limit to how high we should be reaching.
