I know I'll probably come across as a bit of a self righteous tosser here, and I appreciate that people's own economic situations will be a factor and that's fine, but I'd rather pay the extra to an offy, a dedicated online whiskey shop, or to be honest even a supermarket than buy booze off Amazon. That's not just limited to alcohol incidentally, I wanted Carlo's book and walked into town to a bookshop and paid an extra couple of quid rather than use them. Some decent whisky offers today and tomorrow if anyone has Amazon Prime.
I agree. Trying my best to support the local businesses at this point. Meat from local butcher, fruit and veg from the grocer etc. Been getting take out coffee from the independent cafe (more than we used to sit in).I know I'll probably come across as a bit of a self righteous tosser here, and I appreciate that people's own economic situations will be a factor and that's fine, but I'd rather pay the extra to an offy, a dedicated online whiskey shop, or to be honest even a supermarket than buy booze off Amazon. Nice one, its not easy like and you've got to pick your battles, I'm not saying I never use them, but its generally for stuff I'm really struggling to get elsewhere.I agree. Our local butcher has some great deals.
Just thought information worth sharing. I will be getting a bottle of Woodford for £20 though as an extra.
This is on offer if you have Amazon Prime. £25
Tasty but hardly based in Iowa - like many craft whiskies over the last several years, its actually distilled and aged by a large secondary producer called MPG of Indiana and then is flavored and bottled by the Iowa distillery.View attachment 106595
Tasty 46% rye finished in maple casks, first in some new ltd bottlings from this distillery in a tiny Iowa town (pop 362 apparently). Can taste the maple but its not over sweet, maybe a bit of a novelty whisky then but very good.
After my beers tonight watching some father ted.
A wee dram of Lagavulin 16yr old, followed up by an Ardbeg. Same island, same intensity, world's apart. Bliss.
Dreading the morning though.

Mate of mine who likes his malts was drinking Ben Bracken which is a single Islay malt from Lidl, he reckoned it was okay and at £17.49 it's got to be worth a try, there's not many distilleries on Islay, they're all decent and it's surely got to be from one of them and it's guaranteed to be peaty and smokey.Could anybody recommend a smoky whisky to a newbie please?
I tried Lagaluvin 16 and it was lovely but don't want to spend £50. Ta.
