Single malts

The Welsh swore by it when I lived in Swansea. But they are a fiercely patriotic bunch.

I have a bottle of legend too and that I would not recommend. It has fine flavours to start with but then you get just a new spirit taste thereafter that overwhelms everything else. The gold (my bottle anyway) tastes far more mellow. My guess is they keep that in the barrel for a lot longer than the legend.

I'd agree regarding Laphroaig at cask strength. It is stellar indeed. I had a bottle of Batch #003 and it was some of the nicest whisky I've ever tasted. Needed more than a couple of drops of water though, it was so aggressive on the palate.

Laphroaig 10yo costs a lot more than it did 10-15 years ago and certainly ain't a bargain anymore. It's been replaced by Laphroaig Select as their entry-level expression, which I haven't tried.

Glenmorangie 10yo can still be picked up for around £25 a bottle at Xmas time, which is a bargain.

Talking like an old man... ?

All things considered, it's still dirt cheap compared to most other well-known single malts...at least here in the States.

Almost picked up a Balblair 12 the other night but I had a rare moment of restraint...I may submit tomorrow, the suspense of trying something new is putting me to the test.

#003 is the reason I'm suggesting hoarding. Phenomenal. Disagree re: water, but that's fine.
You're entitled to your opinion. It was a beast, in a good way.

Good to hear that you all can still get Glenmorangie inexpensively as well. Destroys everything in that price range.

Happy drinking everyone. Enjoyed a lovely Dimple 15 year old over the winter here. With the hard lockdown extending here for another two months, may open my JW Green bottle I think.

Found a place near me that has 2 Springbank 12YO Cask Strength ($130) and one bottle of Bruichladdich Octomore 11.3 ($250...*gulp*), both of which are a g'damn miracle around here...I've avoided driving by ever since; dangerous.

Willpower = 4 months

Could've lasted longer but I'm hearing that this is even tough to find in Scotland right now, so I broke down. Cork on until a b'day party tomorrow, then the gloves come off and multiple individuals may turn in to g'damn wildebeests, come the witching hour.

Lads, need your collective wisdom.

It's my mates 30th at the weekend and we want to get him an expensive bottle of whiskey as a present. All I know is he loves Scottish peaty types and his favourites are Ardbeg and Laphroaig.

Can anyone recommend something similar to the above but a lot more pricey?
