OK fellow liquid gold lovers - enjoying a Balvenie 17 YO Double wood. Not as smooth as you'd expect from a 17 yo malt, quite harsh but on the nice side of harsh. Flavour sticks around too. Better than the 12 yo DW.

Oh nice. I was asking about this earlier. Would you prefer the Oban Distillery Edition to this?

That's the one I tried the other night Big G. I was really looking forward to it but wasn't overly impressed unfortunately, think I'd stick with the 12YO.
I've often found this, that 17 or 18 YO Highland Park that won all the plaudits 4 or 5 years ago was the same story, I didn't think it had anything over the regular Highland Park. Maybe I'm just not refined enough! That said though, I tried an 18YO Dalmore that was stunning.

Damn...unavailable here at the moment...invite me over please!
Or at the very least, give me a detailed report of my,hopefully soon, next purchase ;)

I always think it tastes kinda "Christmassy". There's some real nice fruit and nut flavours in there. Really well balanced, quite rich but not too much, and a nice long finish. Probably my favourite outside of the south Islay peaty triumvirate of Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. This or Springbank, anyway.
