Single malts

Nah, usually have the first taste neat, then add at least a couple of drops of water depending on the strength.
Yep me too. If it's under 55% I have it neat but sometimes it's cool to try your regular 40% faves with a tiny splash of water. Transforms the taste.

For the newbies, the amount of water is really tiny. Like 2 eye drops worth.

I always try neat but find I usually prefer them with a couple of drops. Something like Laphroaig cask strength 10 I'd have almost 1:1 whisky/water it's so aggressive.

Usually a teaspoon is about right for anything over 46% for me.

Agreed.

Try your regular tipple with water though, it's surprising how much they alter in taste.

Amazing how 1 ice cube turns the flavour into predominantly water. A couple of drops does the trick.

Rather than just throw in an ice cube?

Putting an ice cube into an $140 Oban Distillers edition was not the brightest thing this camper has ever done.
Never again.
I'm sure how much water to add to the intense hit of the first sip though. A tablespoon seems a lot to me.
Oh, you've done that to Oban.

I suggest you refrain from that, and simply enjoy Oban, or even add 0.5 ml water AT MOST.

At least you know now.....
