Was pleasantly surprised how nice the 12 year Macallan 12 was against older and more expensive whiskies. Have a Dalmore 15 at the moment which is sound.

Christ how Tory?
Oh no. No politics in here. It may be quality sauce, but it remains ale.

Also, really glad you finally got into this.

Some very good offers from tesco today worth checking out.
The Cardhu in the gold box is down to just £25. Usually £40 plus all day long.
One litre Jack Daniels is only £18 too. Sad but thats a few xmas pressies sorted already.

What whiskey would people recommend for someone with no experience drinking it but looking to try it? I've heard good things about Glennfiddich?
Buy a little gift set of glennfiddich maybe ?
You get 3 small bottles differing in quality for just over a tenner.
The older bottle is decent, apparantly.

You won't go far wrong with starting with Glenfiddich. If you can go for the 15 year old Solera reserve, better value than the more expensive 18 year old though more expensive than the 12 year .
Eeek, your post made me fancy a dram of the 15 yr and discovered I'm just about out, oh well will finish it tonight now.

As above, the 15yo is best. Think that's the oldest one they put in those packs these days. Used to be 12-15-18 but think it's 12-14-15 now.

I'm just about all out at the moment, got about a dram each left of Laphroaig QC, Springbank 10 and Balvenie Tun 1401 batch #8, and am too skint to buy any more at the moment. Bleak times!

There's a bottle of Connemara waiting for me at my dad's, too, but he lives in North Shields and I'm in Somerset. Bugger!

Anyone tried the new Ardbeg An Oa yet?

With my favourite Oban Distillers Edition having run out, down to the last drop possible, I've been sampling the Johnnie Walker Green Label the last couple of weeks.
Not bad. Not up to the Oban's level for me, but not bad at all.

Thanks fellers, I saw one of those little gift sets in Tesco so I'll have a try of that. Generally a Guinness drinker but looking to broaden my horizons
