I prefer Grants. Have you tried Grouse Smoky Black? It’s rather good for the price. As blends go, Whyte and McKay is good

The best blended whisky on the market.
This, though Grants used to be a decent drop, back in the dayChivas Regal us nice but expensive. Teachers is the best cheap blend, very high single malt content. Grants and White and McKay both have a horrible aftertaste of burnt caramel. Which I'm presuming is the added colouring.
It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. Just been bought a bottle of Tullibardine 225. Anyone tried it?Chivas Regal us nice but expensive. Got a bottle of Wolfburn Northland for my 50th, from the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland, in Thurso. it’s very nice, ABV 46. Not a whisky expert, anyone else had a tipple?, and if so how do you think this one lines up for a young single malt.View attachment 45641
I never mix any whisky, even the blends, so it has to be reasonably decent. I used to like Grants and White and McKay. The later is pretty smooth for a blend. What I have found, is that Teachers is the only blend I can drink after drinking single malt. There's just too much of a drop in quality with anything else. Even after drinking that perfumed [Poor language removed] that Beckham promotes, the drop in quality is quite marked. It''s the caramel flavour I don't like, and it's very prevalent in all blends. The slight smokiness of Teachers seems to counter it and it isn't as noticeable. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. Just been bought a bottle of Tullibardine 225. Heading out on a jolly boys tour of the distilleries later in the year. Was hoping to do Islay, but the week we are all free the hotels are fully booked. Doing Inverness instead, there's a fair few within easy reach. Just hope it doesn't clash with the derby.
