Sir Landon Of Donovan

I haven't said any such thing.

You were acting all high and mighty saying that Landon should thank Everton for the honor, and I was just pointing out that Landon has done that. And he repeatedly has done that. I haven't said he's a saint or any such thing.

I personally think he would add much needed depth to the team for the right price and would love to see him here.

I honestly don't think I was on any high horse mate... my initial post was in response to a previous poster suggesting that the club thank Landon for his services. Now it's no secret hat I don't rate him as highly as some others on here do, but I have seen better players play for this club and I don't think it's been suggested that the club thank any of them personally.

Nor should they in my opinion, they get paid well for doing a job.

I'm sorry Kay but Manuel Fernandes has more appearances than Donovan for us. His "service" is two miniscule loan spells.

He's a good player and whether he ever dons our shirt again or not has nothing to do with that. I too hate it when people change their opinion of someone's ability because of emotion or something that's not rational. He's a quality player and did well for us.

But erm, if anything he should be grateful. He didn't come out of the goodness of his heart to help little old Everton out. He had his wages (and loan fees) paid for him by one of the biggest clubs in the home of his sport to give him the chance of trying his hand in the biggest league in the world.

I like Landon, but I'm not going to deify him. He isn't an Everton player and never really has been a proper one. Which is a shame, I wish we'd been able to sign him for good immediately after his first loan.

Some good points in there but it somehow misses the fact that LD loved playing for the Toffees (he's sounded much more of an Evertonian than many permanently contracted players - and he galvanised us twice with his cameo apperances. To read that you'd think he just turned up for the money then flew off to the US of A laughing..

I for one, am grateful and will always love him for what he did for us. As I'm sure he's grateful to Everton and the fans for what we did for him.

Thank you Clint. Excellent post.

Didn't know the forum was called GOTXBill mate.

It isn't. Never has been.

Par for the course. He swings a heavy hammer at all who disagree. He is right on quite a bit of the time. I give him a wide berth and stay out of his way. Our personalities don't mix.

Heh. For the record, I've never banned anyone for disagreeing with me. If I did, we wouldn't have half the people on here we have now. That and I'm fairly sure my stint as a moderator would come to an abrupt end. I've banned people for a variety of offenses on here as spelled out in the forum rules though.

Yeah, TX Bill are you serious right now ?

Serious about what?

I'm free to move along because I disagree with you?

Who do you think you are, exactly?

Yes because reason and Azzurri don't mix. Like oil and water. Who am I?

- Someone who watches MLS in person every week.
- Someone who watches other MLS squads play each week.
- Someone who watches Landon Donovan on as much as a consistent basis who isn't an LA Galaxy supporter.
- Someone who can comment intelligently on MLS players and their abilities, not just in MLS, but how they may or may not do if they were to transfer to Europe.
- And lastly, someone who's frankly sick and tired of uninformed/lazy opinions being spouted off as fact on the subject of Landon Donovan

But because some Everton whopper(s) thinks that they've seen Landon play what? One or two times since he's left Everton and even then, probably just some highlight they caught on the news, that they think he's past it or couldn't help the club?

I hope that answers your question although I thought very seriously of giving you absolutely no response as that's really what your questions deserved. I'm sorry if I had to spell it out for you. I've got a funny feeling though that you wouldn't get a satisfactory response no matter what I said.

Wow.

Some cringe worthy stuff there.

Oooh yeah....really cringe worthy.

Amazing to me that someone thinks that the truth is more "cringe worthy" than giving credence to opinions of people who don't even watch him play. You're welcome to shoot the messenger or how the message was delivered if you don't like it. I don't care too much about being diplomatic about it at this point.

For the record, could Landon come here and be absolute crap? Sure he could.

The point is that his current form based on observation of his play is good enough to where he would still contribute to Everton Football Club.

Cool story.

You could've made it a bit longer, though. I feel you didn't put enough time into this post.
