Sir Landon Of Donovan

Question for the more MLS knowledgable - does retiring void the remainder of Landon's MLS contract?

Scenerio: February rolls around and Landon hasnt concluded his walkabout so "retires" from LA. Then, after a bit of time, Moyes swoops in and picks him up for free.

I remember something like this with Pat Onstad, but I don't know if he was out of contract when he retired.

For all the spunk in this thread, quite sure he was the catalyst for our superb January this year, plenty of assists and was really welcomed.

Hope he joins up again. I love the lad.

So did he say goodbye to the fans???

Sure looked like it. I don't know the answer to RAFUH's question above - but I don't think he would do that (retire and then join up). Plus, he still (hopefully) has national team games starting in Feb, so that would be horrible for the Nats. I do think he would put pressure on the league - as he has done these last few months - to let him go.

After several days of just letting this thread go by since honestly at this point he's either coming or he's not so why engage - why am I back here posting again?

LCAB tweeted to him when the MLS Cup Final was over and told him what the weather was like in Liverpool.

If he is feeling the maybe-I'll-retire-it's-not-fun-anymore-get-away-from-soccer and it not just pressure on MLS, I can't see him being match fit by Feb 6 for the US games. He certainly isn't making it sound like a 4 to 5 week hiatus.....assuming he does eventually play again.

As for un-retiring, I agree. He would not retire just to get out of the contract.
I was creating a little fantasy scenario with LD on a free. We could actually afford him

Yeah can't see him retiring to get out of the last year.

No doubt he's just doing everything he can to kinda say I've given everything to MLS, I'm now 30 and want a break from u.s soccer. I wanna go away and do 2-3yrs in England then ill come back.

Basically without coming out and straight saying I want out to go and join Everton he's using this angle in hope MLS will see he needs to move on now.

Eight days! since the last post here. I couldn't let it go any longer ... come back LD! There must be some bloke on twitter who has made up some news on SLoD?

Could be our most important bit of business if a deal could be done.

People may disagree, but, his versatility could be key for us getting 4th place. In his time here he has played on both wings. He can also play as the second striker and as the out and out striker. Theres four positions covered by one player who gets the club and most importantly can deliver in the PL. No brainer for me. Just hope he is up for it.
