He's versatile too. He can play on the left or right, in the centre and behind the striker. He's versatile, but not in the Naismith 'versatile' where he plays on the right and is crap. He's actually good in most positions.

"Donovan has outplayed Osman"?
Im not sure thats valid, Osman plays CM, Donovan would have to "out-play" Mirallas and Pienaar, something he cant do.

If they're competing for a spot behind Jelavic, I'd have Donovan over Osman. That's IF Felli would be playing beside Gibson instead of his current role.
The Pienaar of the last month or so ? He definitely could. Goal aside Pienaar was piss poor yesterday.
I think you have missed the bit where Fellaini plays behind the Striker.
I didn't know that was the only role he could play...These past few season must have confused my memory where I thought he also played center mid.
Not what I'm saying at all. We've passed it around very well this year. We're not a long ball team. I just don't think we need Fellaini up the pitch to win those "long balls" if that's not our game. Donovan has outplayed Osman the two times he's been in on loan IMO. I like Osman though. No doubt he's still a quality little player in my mind, but I do see Landon as a boost.
You mean when Cahill played behind the Striker?
TOUCHDOWN
Hes not been at his best, but I still think hes playing "ok".
Yup. So if we brought in another player to play behind the striker, Felli could move back. And the extra point splits the uprights..
Our way of playing is basically we get the ball wide and then work it in, either into the box or laying it back to Osman to blast wide.
Fellaini is useful because he can win aerial balls and then lay it off to the wings, which gives us an easier way to get the ball there then by playing it from the back. If the opposition press up on Gibson and Osman we can hit the ball towards Fellaini and if the opposition drop back Gibson can pick the ball out wide himself. You play Mirallas or Donovan up there and the worry is that we'll lose one of our two ways of playing and become easier to stop.
