Small Squad

I should have multi quoted it- it was only a joke that I was trying to post a positive post and sim was being quite negative- its fine its his opinion- no biggy.

I thought thats what you were inferring, but I couldnt understand why you were pointing that at me as as Teppic said, we've all come over here from toffeeweb. I thought maybe ive got written, "Sim: I love Toffeeweb and im negative all the time" somewhere written or something.

Anyway, apologies for coming across negative, not meaning to sound that way. I do believe this is the best squad since the 80's, I just feel we're light on numbers when injuries kick in, and our european campaign can end very quickly if that happens. And if that happens, it could have a negative effect on the league campaign.

but whats the answer to a small squad. is there really a point in buying players who aren't good enough to play even if they get a chance?

Key Injuries to all teams, such as the [Poor language removed], manure, barcodes or any of them with "big squads" it [Poor language removed] em all up, because nobody has the players to replace the best players.

Can chelsea replace terry, lampard, drogba.... no.
Can the [Poor language removed] replace gerrard, alonso or carragher.. no

so the idea of a "small squad" or a "big squad" is a bit silly really, if arteta, cahill, AJ, lescott get injured then we are in trouble regardless of who we bring in.

Yes you have a point in that, most teams cant do without their key players, but also, a large squad is not only about cover, its have a range of tactics at your desposal, to change things to meet different opposition, or to have players on the bench that can turn things around.

I honestly dont think Moyes is happy with the current squad size, i doubt any manager would. I doubt many other fans too, would be happy for the respective teams to be so short of options.

The winking smiley means I was joking mate- I was refferring to the negative slant of your posts. I dont think your posts are irrelevant at all.

I had the same type of thing hit me in a different post Mick. I mentioned the negativity of TW (not the posters individually) and someone reacted in a similar manner. Not to worry, I guess some people don't see when we are trying to be light hearted. It is the problem of communicating in a purely text manner.

Absolutely but hes working on it in his own way. Did you ever ask yourself why Davey likes a player that brings him multi options on the playing field. He seems to like a smaller squad with different options provided by his signings.

I agree buddy. I would rather plod on with a smaller squad of committed players than a larger group of players that are nearly rans that are there to bleed the wages budget dry. ANY team would miss key players as most teams realistically revolve around those players and struggle on if they are missing. Regardless of what league the team plays in it is the same for the whole sport.

Dont you think though that there is some link between us being rubbish in cups and our small squad?

Dont tell me Moyes likes a small squad when he's working his ass of trying to bring players in, that doesnt makes sense. He's aware of it being too small, so its pointless trying to defend having a small squad when the manager has on countless times stated he wants more players too.

Gazdalf, not that I wanna keep on with this, but mick didnt say about TW posters in general, he aimed the comment at myself, and i know he meant it only as a joke, hence the smiley, i was just struck as to why he pointed out me as if i am notoriously negative on TW all the time. I was just curious as to which way he meant it.

Not once have I mentioned that either I or Moyes LIKES a small squad. I said that I would prefer a smaller one full of players that can play as opposed to a larger one that has players in that are not good enough and bleed the wages budget dry.

And the part where I mentioned posters indivdually kind of meant that I knew that.

This reaction backs up what I said about it being hard to put a point across with text alone as some people will not understand the emotion or the motivation behind it. That is unless I want everything I write to be turned into an essay by having to explain every single detail in its fullest.

And before you over-react to this it is not intended to be a slight or slander on anyone in particular as this all started with a statement I intended for Mick.

It's a fine line between a small enough squad which fosters a good team spirit yet one that isn't so small that just a few injuries could effect the performance on the pitch.

I'd give credit to Moyes for walking that line in that Everton's "team first" mentality has been very good and the few injuries we had last year didn't come back to haunt us.

That said, I'd still like one or maybe two more players and we'll be set.

(...and some of us still post on TW...)

Well it is kinda what your implying here isnt it?

Noone stated we need a larger squad just for numbers alone, I agree in that sense.

And for the record, I still occasionally post on TW so I know what the thoughts, posts, and attitudes are like on there. But I can't seem to access the site at the moment.

(and it is good to see your name popping up in here again TX, make it happen more bud.:) )

How am I over-reacting? I simply replied to mick's message, not in an aggresive manner, simply replied and I was curious as to what he meant?

And I know that your message was originally intended for mick, but as it was reffering a conversation that I had with him earlier then I thought it was OK that I made a comment on it. Sorry if you took this as being rude.
