So we have no striker coach....

“I hear you’ve no been scoring any goals Dom. We cannae be havin’ tha son.”

Great post @Azza. Owing to our chaotic leadership in the last decade we've been able to see quite a lot of managers come and go and Ancelotti was in a different league to the others. You could argue he had better players but other managers didn't get a fraction out of those same players as he did and they certainly weren't all the calibre he was used to. So far I've not wanted to criticise Dyche much because we simply don't know enough about what goes on behind the scenes and it does seem that he's been more or less abandoned since he got here to do more than a manager would normally do. However after finally getting some real questions at a press conference we got a glimpse at what isn't happening behind the scenes and it really is as shocking as everyone is saying. Every elite athlete has multiple coaches, every elite manager is constantly refreshing their approach, adapting and learning. Dyche genuinely doesn't seem to be up to that level. I really can't see a reason for keeping him given we are in a relegation fight again and this group of players would almost certainly benefit from the new manager effect as they just need things freshening up at this point.

I can’t believe this is actually real. You’d think he’d see the actual evidence given how bad we are at goal scoring that maybe some coaching might be an idea??

What’s frustrating is that you can absolutely see evidence of what good coaching can do. I always think of Unai Emery when he came in and he (and his coaches!) made such a difference to Watkins game, he was ok before but he was in superb form for them after working with Emery for a bit. I saw an interview with him where he was talking about how they helped with his decision making, when you might choose to hit the near post or lob the keeper etc.

It’s insane that you actually have a Premier League team admitting they don’t have a specialist coach for their forwards. One of the biggest leagues there is, and that’s the level of detail we are putting in. Some teams have set-piece specialists now ffs and we don’t coach one of the most crucial parts of the pitch???

So this has wound me up big time and more so in the 'details', because we know Sean likes them, of what he said.

"it's a very difficult skill to just teach someone how to smell a goal, how to smell the right place to be, how to find a pathway through football, most see it quicker than the opposition, most see it quicker than defenders, it's like an intuition. So to teach intuition, is very very difficult. So maybe sharpening finishing practices, well any pro licensed coach, which we all are, should be able to do a finishing practice. Even top strikers when I've spoken to them, and I know a few, for them to pass that knowledge onto someone is very difficult."

Here is the thing my balding theropod friend you already have a striker who can "smell a goal", "smell the right place to be", as we've already seen it with our own eyes and been told it by one of the greatest club managers in the history of the game.

He identified the qualities in the players, he coached the players and he implemented a tactical system to get the best out of the players available.

Davide Ancelotti talking about DCL and Ferguson as a coach for him.

Davide on the 'system'.

Ancelotti didn't bitch and moan about what went on before, or how he was still trying to fix 'problems' after being in the job for over two years. Despite having your pro-license the simple fact is you're just not a very good manager or coach, just very very mediocre. About time you stopped whinging and cleared off.

My balding Theropod friend

….maybe we can also get a right winger coach who can turn our right wingers into right wingers.
I know you're saying this sarcastically, but a striking coach isn't exactly a controversial position, Eggsy, most clubs have one. Our coaching staff is one of the smallest in the division. Maybe some extra help might not be a bad idea.

Cracking post that, I assume, most of the Dyche sympathisers will ignore. The evidence you provided clearly shows that there are levels to this "coaching" lark and that our current incumbent is several levels below some of our previous coaches. No matter what Gary Birtles says!
